there is a lack of world class strikers around that is going to be the problem in the summer i can not imagine rafa paying over the odds for a player
The future you have, tomorrow, won't be the same future you had, yesterday.

Youv`e gotta pay top prices for top players.Rafa will HAVE to change his policy if we are to compete against Chavski or UnReal Madrid.

Rafa isnt the type to go after' big' players though is he? he has said that often enough. Someone like him would probably be a Rafa kind of player.

When someone like David Villa is in essence saying the same thing, probably for the same reasons Stevie and other english have said it in the past ie, they love their own culture, language, are suited to their home league better, people are more than happy to dismiss that and say of course he'll leave if the money is right

Is there any difference between Villa saying these things and been disbelieved or it debated that off course he'll leave for the right amount of cash, or stevie g saying the equivalent as an englishman, and no-one doubting his word as much?

Basically, I've no idea whether villa will or won't leave, just find it amusing the kind of double standard when an englishman quotes similar sentiments to a foreign player, but one is believed above another

We`ve chased Alves,Figo and Simao recently and lost out due to price or pay issues. That shouldn`t EVER happen again.
BTW,i think Klose would do a decent job at `pool but there must be better out there.

Klose is a brilliant player. He is probably the best striker in the air and is very good on the floor too. He is one of the best in the box and is a great team player. The only negative thing is that he hasn't excellent pace.

I would say that he is one of the top five strikers in the World right now.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

You obviously rate him,you have him in your signature team.As you say, pace is a problem.Rafa will probably look towards Spain again,it`s where most of his scouts are.Time will tell i suppose.

What do you mean by "high profile enough"?
We need a top-class striker who will fit into the team and work his ass off.
His mentality has to impress Rafa. High profile doesn't come into it.

I think Klose fits the bill perfectly. Who would you fancy?

Villa and Torres are two of the best strikers around and both should be high on Rafa`s wish list.Getting them here is the problem. But i wouldn`t be surprised if Manure and Chelsea both bid for them while we bid for Klose or some other lower profile steady workhorse type striker. We`ll have to accept that in order to get these highly sought after players we`ll have to bid strong, instead of settling for second best or young hopefulls like we have done for the last few seasons.
We have not been successful in the transfer market buying Pennant,Bellamy,Crouch and Kuyt and missing out on Simao and Alves among others.
I want us to be bidding against the biggest teams for the BEST players regardless of Rafa`s frugal spending policy.

Sorry, I still think you're selling Klose short - "lower profile steady workhorse type striker"?
He's proved himself on the world stage more than either Villa or Torres has.
What makes you think that getting him would be "settling for second best"?
Rafa will buy whomever fits into the team the best. Rightly so, IMO.

Pace pace pace.. why do people think all strikers need pace to be lethal?

So Klose hasn't got pace? Well Shearer, Folwer, Larsson,Sheringham and even Crouch haven't got pace, but what they did/do have was excellent finishing techniques and a good footballing brain in terms of knowing when to time runs and how to clinically finish chances.

If we signed Klose and I hope we do, I fear it will mean Crouch would be off and we'd then possibly look at getting another striker to replace Fowler.

I know a lot of people are saying Klose is no spring chicken being 31? but hey, Shearer and Sheringham both played up and past 35.

We need strikers who will be unselfish and most all, we need strikers who know how to stick the ball in the back of the onion bag. Klose ticks all the boxes.
They've won the league, bigger stars than Dallas, they've got more silver than Buckhingham Palace, no one knows quite what to expect, when the Red Machine's in full effect!

Exactly, and now for once, cost won't be the factor, but the players ability & availability & fitting/settling in & is he the right man for the team will be the overriding factors.

Let's all sit back and see who Rafa is after in 6 months time, rather than getting heated up about potential targets before the season has ended.

I think Klose is, er, closer to 28/29 than 31 mate.

And S&S knew the PL inside out, which is how they were able to continue to play on.

You will find top clubs won't generally sign players if over 31, especially not ones that haven't played in the fast & physical PL.
