American sport club owners are known to spend big if it means winning championships..the figure mentioned by AFII might actually be close to what Rafa will get. Course I am speculating but having lived in N America for ages now I can tell you that Gillete & Hicks will dig really deep in their pockets especially if they belived in RAFA, which I think they did.

1 - Hicks and Gillett are prepared to give Rafa 70Mill
2 - Rafa spends all 70Mill in one close season

Both 1 and 2 happening is unlikely if you ask me

If Moores was giving 30-35£ m evry summer and he couldn't take the club any further then it is realistic the new owners who are supposedly richer will give more.
I think some of you still can not grasp the idea that we have new owners who have more finanical muscle than Moores.

Or Rafa won't have to settle for second best any more, which is the only change I see, not any set amount restrictions.

But wholesale changes for expensive players just ain't going to happen.

We will more likely follow Utd's example rather than tscums, improve with the best option available in one area at a time, mass disruptions with a large influx ruined us this year, (along with getting in players late with limited funds as well) it won't happen 2 years running.

Alves was one of Rafa's top targets in the summer but we couldn't get him beacause Seville were playing silly beggers with his fee and in the end we couldn't afford him and had to get Pennant instead. I think if Gillet and Hicks were the owners last summer we would of got him they would of gone that extra couple of mil to get his target. I very much doubt however that if Rafa wanted 3 or 4 15-20mil players that the new owners would back it. I think 70 mil is still way off the mark and I very much doubt Rafa would spend that kind of money in one transfer window. Only last week he said we don't need to spend big in the summer.

Rafa will do us proud I'm sure of that he'll spend the money as he see's fit. It's just nice now knowing he wont have to worry so much about who he can and can't get anymore

thats right mate, he can go for his #1 targets now that is why i think Veronin is just a squad player ala Zenden & Fowler

Has anyone even considered that Voronin might be one of Rafa's top choices? Just because he's not a 'name' like Villa or Torres (i don't think we'll sign either of them by the way) doesn't mean that Rafa might not have seen something in him that others haven't.

He did it with Crouch, and to a lesser extent Bellamy and Pennant.

Just because the money is there this summer doesn't mean he has to spend it. He might want to save some up for a massive transfer in Jan 2008 or the summer after.

Voronin on a free is an astute signing in my opinion and indicates that whatever funds Rafa will be given in the summer will be allocated to 'bigger name' transfers.

We should all have faith in Rafa's judgement based on his ability to develop good players into great ones. He's dropped a few bollocks but most of his signings have been good. Rafa must see something in Voronin that he feels will add more "possibilities" to the squad...

Voronin is defo not 15 a season scorer. He's more of a 2nd striker in the Beardo/Litmanen mould. Squad player no more me thinks.

I just said he was an astute signing. As he can play anywhere across the front and he'll obviously be a squad player I don't think we are signing him to get us 15 goals a season.
