...and he plays every game. Pongo is making a name for himself in Spain. If he doesn't come back to Anfield I can see one of the bigger Spanish clubs showing an interest in him.

His situation is similar to Carson's - the only way they will return to LFC, is if they are first team regulars. I don't think Rafa can offer either player enough playing time.

Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin is to join Liverpool in the summer on a four-year deal, BBC Sport understands.

The 27-year-old, who is a free agent in the summer, has reportedly agreed a four-year deal with Liverpool.

Part of the Ukraine side that reached the World Cup finals in 2006, Voronin has scored six goals in 20 league games for Leverkusen this season.

No-one was available from the German club to confirm further details of Voronin's transfer to Liverpool.

Voronin played twice against Liverpool two years against when Rafa Benitez's side beat Leverkusen 6-2 on aggregate en route to winning the Champions League in 2005.

The Ukraine striker also featured in Leverkusen's 3-2 win over Blackburn in the Uefa Cup on Wednesday.

He played for Leverkusen on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to Hannover in Germany's Bundesliga and missed a good chance late on.

If the deals goes through, Voronin's transfer would be the first under the new regime of George Gillett and Tom Hicks after the American tycoons agreed a takeover of Liverpool earlier this month.

Forgive me if I'm not excited, but like some have said, maybe he's just back up.

Not a very inspiring first signing for next season though. Let's hope there's better in terms of quality to come in up front.

I would imagine Robbie will be on his way, as well as one other, can't see that being Kuyt, more likely to be Crouch or Bellamy.

For example when Crouch signed at least 80% of people on here (KT at the time) were up in arms. He's proven in time to be a good signing IMO. On the flipside most were raving about Gonzalez before he signed, and he's been largely ineffectual.

If the deal goes through it does pose a few questions as to our summer activity. Does Rafa have as much money to spend as some seem to think he will? Is he saving the majority of the transfer money for top notch signings? What does this mean for Bellamy and Crouch, will one of them be leaving?

The most likely explaination is that Voronin is a straight replacement for Fowler who's leaving/retiring. A replacement 4th choice striker who's versatile, on a free, an international and who's got a decent goalscoring record, and Rafa does like possibilities. If he works out nobody will complain.

Truth is we have no idea. I've seen £125m, £60m, £20m put aside for David Villa, £25m quoted. All complete bollocks. We just don't know how much Rafa will have to spend, and this is a good thing. Means we have less chance of getting ripped off by other clubs doesn't it?
