My eldest son had a lucky escape in July 2002. He was 10 at the time, the new home shirt had just come out and we were in JJB Sports at the Trafford Centre. I'd promised to buy him the new shirt (soft Dad ) and I asked him whose name he wanted on the back. "Dunno" came his usual reply so I said, "we're about to sign Lee Bowyer from Leeds and he plays in the number 11 shirt which Jamie Redknapp had before he moved to Spurs. Get 'BOWYER 11' and all yer mates'll be dead jealous!"

Luckily the lad's got more sense than me and said, "get lost, Dad, he's crap. I'll have 'GERRARD 17' instead..."
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

A mate of mine had Cheyrou and another had Diouf.

I got Fowler on our first CL shirt about a month before Ged flogged him to Leeds. *******

95-96 away shirt, you know the one. Green and white squares.

With Ruddock 25 on the back. It was my pride and joy at the time.

I had that one with McManaman 17 on. I was about 9 or 10 and it ran from one shoulder to the other.

Not that Macca was a bad player. He was my hero at the time.

My son Foster is a fan of soccer. He was a goaltender. His brother was a defenseman.
