That's the only way it can work without dropping Tennants.

That's probably the best way to accomodate everyone yeah. It does though place a large strain on Riise, because neither Bellamy or Sissoko will want to gug the left side and stop marauding right backs.Originally posted by brendan-----------------Reina------------------

that said, our set-up and team formation SHOULD be geared around accomodating Steven Gerrard, not anybody else.

And instead of correcting me you decided to write a couple of lines of rubbish and then put a funny smilie at the end. That's the way this forum seems to be after a promising start, kraptalk2 with very little decent conversation and loads of hostility and pure nonsense. That's sad.Originally posted by kerfuffleno problem mate, just thought your statement was laughable.
So instead of trying to be an online bad ass, would you like to tell me how you see Sissoko's role?Last edited by Reina; 10-08-06, 11:03 AM.

Dunno.. Kuyt isnt this big target man that everyone has him labelled as, he's strong like Shearer, but even Shearer has needed a foil in either a deep target man (Sutton) or a nippy striker to play off (Owen)..
I think the big issue is that in the Premiership we need to play two upfront, we've Gonzalez and Aurelio (not to mention Harry!) to come into the equation on the left, and we now have Pennant on the right, with three wonderful players in Momo, Alonso and Stevie in the middle..
Tricky.

Nail on head there Disco mate. It was evident watching the game yesterday that this is the case. A few times he pulled wide taking the defender with him, either with the ball or without, and then he, or one of the midfielders if they were in possesion, had no one to hit in the middle. I feel, based on last nite (which I know was only one game) that to get the best from Bellamy he needs to play with another forward, or at the very least a proper second striker (ala Garcia), not someone like Gerrard who last nite continually dropped too deep to come and pick up the ball and influence play in midfield, which resulted in Bellamy becoming isolated up front.Originally posted by discoThis is exactly what I posted last night after the game - who do you drop for Gerrard because (IMO) he doesn't work as a secondary striker as well.
Bellamy also seems to need a second striker to work off.
Alonso would seem the obvious choice to 'drop', and we can switch it around later if we need to.
At one point SG whipped in a fantastic cross that eluded Bellers at the near post and was crying out for someone to tap in at the far post. A second striker, or perhaps even SG himself (last nites "second striker"), should have been on the end of that for an easy goal. Now, I know SG is good, but he;s not that good where he can get on the end of his own cross!
I think this one example demonstrates why SG needs to play deeper in midfield and why another forward or proper "second striker" is needed. Just my opinion....

I find the constant semantics about the terms "target man" and "holding midfielder" are incredibly tiresome.
Is it too much to ask that a top club should aspire to having "brilliant midfielder" and a "top class striker"? I know every player has strengths and weaknesses but I really think that the best players in the EPL make a mockery of these labels.I have five fingers

Whatever you want to suggest, that's just the same as yesterday.

It clearly isn't the same as yesterday. For a start Gerrard isn't playing as a support striker. Kuyt wasn't playing yesterday (for Liverpool anyway). And Bellamy wasn't playing just behind him.Originally posted by Don QuixoteWhatever you want to suggest, that's just the same as yesterday.
Apart from all that it's the same, yeah.
