    Never sell him!
I guess if we played 5 games in a row without him peoples eyes would open and they would see how much he actually means to our team.

His passing early in the season was not at his 2005-06 best, but if you look at our overall passing/assists/tackling etc. he's top or near the top on all of them

Cheers mate I've actually been stalking here for a while, more so since KT started going a bit down hill.

Alonso is a top player - full stop. We should only consider getting rid of any players if we can replace them with better. That would be one hell of a challenge in Xabi's case.

I think Xabi will hang his boots with us.

He's brilliant and been our best midfielder this season after a dodgy start.

You can't base a players value on another players price. IF Rafa were to sell Xabi, you can only get what teams are offering.

It's difficult to parse that statement.
                    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

We miss him badly when he is out of the team. Xabi has a maturity and neatness of play which is instrumental in our best football. I wouldn't sell Xabi for anything (within reason), personally, and Mascherano's acquisition doesn't change that. It is up to Masher to take Xabi's place from him and until he does that then there is no way we can sell Alonso.

£25m deal on the table for Liverpool
                        13:24 February, 23, 2007
According to reports, Barcelona have set their sights on Xabi Alonso.

The Spanish giants have failed to impress this term, and are reportedly looking to bolster their midfield options for the next season.

Reports from Spain suggest that Barca are ready to launch a stunning £25m bid to secure Liverpool star Xabi Alonso.

Reds are reluctant to part with the player, but the 26-year-old could be tempted to join the European champions, as he would be keen to make a return to La Liga.

A straight swap deal involving Samuel Eto’o or Xavi has also been mooted.

However, Rafa Benitez is expected to block Alonso’s departure.
Would you be interested in a swap with either player? and maybe plus cash? I think it would make you listen anyway, would still be gutted if he left. Although the signing of Mascherano does ease the pain but only very slightly.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Not for Xavi because Alonso is younger and far better defensively. If they offered Eto'o then depending on how Mascherano is doing we'd have to have a look.

That said though, if they were willing to lose Eto'o then i'd much prefer just making a big offer and getting him that way

True, If only we knew if Rafa was an admirer.

Eto'o isn't a team player. He thinks about himself first, second and third.

He is a world class player but also one who could destroy the team spirit.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
