Javier Mascherano has been handed a first Liverpool start for this afternoon's clash with Sheffield United at Anfield.
The Argentinian international lines up alongside Steven Gerrard in the Reds' midfield with Jermaine Pennant and Mark Gonzalez occupying the wide positions.

Robbie Fowler and Peter Crouch will start up front while Jerzy Dudek is recalled in goal in place of Pepe Reina, whose wife is in labour. Youngster Daniele Padelli is the goalkeeping substitute.

One of Kuyt or Bellamy wasn´t going to make the bench, happened to Bellers, nothing unusual I think, but the press might make something of it though.

Would be confident if Dudek wasn´t in goal...this could blow in our face.

Apart from Dudek starting I'm pretty chuffed with the line-up that Rafa's chosen. Will be good for Kuyt, Alonso and Bellamy getting a rest and good to see Fowler, Crouch and Gonzalez starting

Selection is fair enough, looking forward to seeing Mashers debut. I agree with one of the other posts though, I'd love to have Carson back at the club, he's a quality keeper and I'd prefer to see him playing today over Jerzy, no disrespect mind fella!
