    All time Liverpool hero/s

Following Markys post in the robbie fowler thread stating his heros I would like to get the jest of how old people(LFC4EVER) and youngish people(ME) would put recent players in their own Lfc lifetime 'hero' status.

My first memory of watching a match on t.v(bearing in mind i never lived in the uk till I 12) was John Barnes getting booked dont know when, who against but thinking it was the end of the world and couldnt believe the old man not really caring.

The first whole Match I can remember is the Crystal Palace fa cup semi final I think in 1990 and after I was physically sick(good old football) and I still take Liverpool losing personally.

My first match at Anfield was the last derby of the old Kop which somehow my dad managed to get tickets in the Kop for him, myself and my friend to see us go 1 down when Brett Angel scored only for Rush to score straight after and then God to hit the winner, What a memory.

Anyway my 'heros' have been/are Grobbelaar, Barnes, Rush, Molby, McManaman, Owen, Fowler, Redknapp, Hyypia, Carragher, Gerrard

I am lucky to be old enough to have seen Liverpool live in the 70s and no one compares to King Kenny. He was my hero as a young lad along with Souness.

We never used to have heroes per se, it was just "our team". Roger Hunt was prob the closest, due to the WC 66 effect, we just had favourite players rather than the hero worship status of today.

George Best was everyones hero at the time of course, and not a fan anywhere didn't want to be in his shoes, the hatred between our fans didn't arrive till the 70s and has increased year-by-year. I remember being battered by scum fans in Blackpool, they played an FA Cup match their in the mid 70s and I happened to be working there at the time, I hated them ever since!

Then along came the first KK for us mere LFC Fans, Kevin Keegan was his name, some little runt from Scunthorpe, and he was idolised as he wasn't blessed with skill ala Georgie, but worked damned hard at what talent he had, and gave it all, then it was Keegan & Toshack forever, perm & dress sense permitting!

There has always been a "hero" in the team, some, but not all, will be:

Roger Hunt, Kevin Keegan, John Toshack, Steve Heighway, King Kenny (of all time), Souness, Rushy, Barnes, and then the list from the OP merge.

Although Souness was a solid defender, my favourites (as a mid 30's fan) were Keegan, Dalgleish and the all time hands down fave of fave of mine Ian Rush, Ian Rush, Ian Ian Rush...He gets the ball and scores a goal, Ian,Ian Rush.

I'm weird I just prefer midfielders Even I couldn't argue that Souness contributed as much to our success Rushie or the King. But, he was hard, smart, scared people, could pass a mile and could take over a game.

No one since has come even close. All hail the alpha male.

My era was late 80s onwards. Never saw Kenny, Souness et al in their prime, my first real memory was of the 88 team, so obviously it has to be John Barnes

Being 20, Carragher, Fowler and Gerrard are my 'heroes'.

Sami isn't far short either. I really hope he gets another season at the club.
