Is Pennant the most improved player since the start of the season?

He was **** to start with but for the last 3-4 months he has rarely had a bad game. I think it's time to give credit were it's due, so well done JP he is STARTING* to prove your doubters wrong keep it up.

I did say starting, I realise he still has a lot to do.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

In terms of form, the biggest variable has been Reina and Carra. They've gone from being unusually woeful to back to their excellent best, but I'd agree Pennant has come on.

I still think he needs to show more, and more often, but today he had a good game and I was impressed.

I realise he has got to keep up this kind of form. Talking about Carra didn't some media guy say he was a disgrace of a footballer for missing the pen in the world cup?

Pennant has performed much, much better since the new year.

That said, we still more quality on the flanks if we are to challenge for the league. I dont like attacking midfielders that never score goals, and Pennant is exactly that, I'd keep him on as decent backup if we cant find a club to cough up three or four million for the lad in the summer.

I am sure before the start of the season I heard someone call Carra a disgrace cause he had to retake his penalty and ****ed it.

We do need a world class right midfielder, but I agree keep Pennant should be kept as backup.

I'd sell Pennant in a heartbeat. Not good enough for LFC.

                    Agreed.

He's one of those players whose normal standard is poor at best. So when he's average, it gets billed as more than it really is. By his standards, he's been 'good'.

By our standards, his upturn in form has equalled 'consistently average'.

I like the fella and i want him to be brilliant. But i still dont see that he has it in him, sadly.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

If we have the cash and someones available who is going to improve the first team then Id be happy to let Pennant go, but that goes for every player.

I am of the opinion that we need a quality creative player and if that player can be found to occupy the RW then all the better.

Its comparisons to Man Utd as usual I guess. When they had Keane we needed a ball winner. We got one in Ince and didnt improve much. They have Ronaldo and Giggs and now we need wingers. Lets we hope we improve enough this time.

I don't want to be harsh on the lad. He worked hard yesterday I felt.

But ultimately, while he has no left foot whatsoever, and while he seems incapable of beating a man on the outside, he'll be incapable of being a good winger for us.

He'll often make a bit of space with some good trickery and so get the ball into a position where he can whip the ball in with his left. Finnan would. But Pennant can't. So despite the space being made, he'll try to then beat his man all over again where the space isn't, and will inevitably lose the ball.

I'd just tell my full backs not to let him down the flank, force him back onto his left foot. Ultimately, he'll try to take you on where there's minimal space anyhow, as he never uses his left foot to get a cross over in the way that, say, Finnan is more than happy to do.

I dunno what it is with footballers who are as one footed as this. Especially wingers. But it truly baffles me that professional footballers don't have the ability to play with both feet.

I really think he'd be a very different proposition if he could use his left to cross the ball.

It was one of the England back room staff. The Scum "newspaper" led with the headline COWARD aimed at Carragher.
