    German youth signing

On Liverpool's scouting network, Ellis said: "Our scouting is growing by the week. We have just got in a boy from Sweden, agreed a loan move for another one from Australia and a German lad should be joining us soon.

Qoute taken from The Times Malta. Anyone heard anything

Yep, he's been on TV a bit recently. Looks quite a talent. He is back up keeper @ Sydney FC until January when he comes here and will go straight past the acadamy into our reserves.

Whilst it's nice we are signing some talented youngsters from across the globe, why can't we discover quality players on our own doorstep? The Merseyside area has provided some great players over the years but the rich well of talent seems to be drying up. Look at the Premiership and three of the best English players (Carra, Stevie and Rooney) are all scousers with others like Barton, Nolan and Baines slipping through the net. Even in the lower divisions players like David Nugent have had to ply their trade elsewhere.

You only have to look at the parks and school playing fields of Merseyside on a Saturday and Sunday to see there are hundreds or even thousands of talented youngsters yet many of then never get a chance or end up at clubs like Crewe, Burnley and Preston.

I agree with Arsene Wenger that you don't need to look at a player's passport to see if he's good or not but I hope that we use some of Gillett & Hicks' millions to invest in a better academy to harvest and nurture the best local talent as well as scouring the world.

There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

I think there are two seperate issues here though. We hear about the youth signings coming in but not so much about the young local players we are developing. Most of the youth cup team this season seem to have been local boys. I don't see that it should be assumed that they have less chance of making it to the first team than the imports.

We had Nolan and Nugent on our books. The fact is that both of those players needed first team experience to grow into the players they are today. We realeased them because they were not outstanding talents in the sense of say Gerrard or Rooney who would step straight into the first team. Until very recently we have used loan deals for young players much less well than teams like United and failed to utilise the League cup like Arsenal have to blood young players. To be honest I hope that we are improving the infrastructure at the club which will mean youth players whatever their origin get a better crack at the first team or at least to develop to their potential so we can sell them for a higher fee.

                That's what I was saying.

Rather than play FM07 (or whatever it's called now) and spending the Yanks' fortune on lots of oversees 'stars' why not invest some of that money in the youth system by improving the academy and recruiting better scouts across the world?

Yeah I agree we must not let up with our search around Liverpool and Enland for tallented youngsters. But I was under the impression we had quite a few in the youth set up.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Thanks to GH we have the best facilities in the counrty academy wise. Its the scouting network that needs improving so we can get the best players with potential there.

Once we've done that we need to find a way for young players to make the first team and stay there. I agreed with Rafa playing Peltier and Guthrie v Arsenal in the League cup, others didnt as they thought it was are last chance of silverware. But what other options are there?

Once they have showed promise in that options for loan deals open up allowing them to get experiance at top Championship clubs. Its the only way.
                    Forwards.......

From the Sunday World in Ireland.
Liverpool have handed a trial to the player dubbed the "New Stuart Pearce"-Cambridge City defender Danny Blanchett.
The 19 yr old has been offered a dream ten-day trial with the Premiership giants.
Now,the left back Blanchett is hoping to follow in the footsteps of England legend Pearce-because they both went to the same school in north London.
