    Xabi to remain a Red

    Alonso to remain a Red
By Alex Dunn - Created on 25 Feb 2007

Xabi Alonso insists he has no intention of quitting Anfield in order to make a return to his homeland, amidst growing speculation that Barcelona want to bring him back to Spain.

A typically assured performance from the pass master at Camp Nou on Wednesday helped Liverpool secure a crucial first-leg advantage over their Catalan counterparts and it was a display that did not go unnoticed in Barca's boardroom.

It is expected that Barcelona could make changes to their playing personnel in the summer and it is former Real Sociedad favourite Alonso that has shot to the top of their wish list.

Since arriving in the Premiership, the Spain international has proved to be an import of the highest calibre and everyone involved at the Merseyside club are likely to be delighted by his most recent reiteration of commitment to stay in England.

"It doesn't affect me - my head is solely on Liverpool," said Alonso.

"I have a contract with them until June 2009 and I am happy there.

"The option of returning to Spain is always there, but for the time being it is not one of my priorities."

Good news. It would be stupid to sell brains of your team.

There might have been a chance of it happening in the summer if we had not got investment, as we are well covered in midfield.
Now though Barca can go swivel
“Hicks could have purchased Dallas’ MLS franchise but decided not to. ‘In hindsight, I probably made the wrong decision,’ he said.“.

Although i doubt rafa would sell alonso,if mascherano does the biz and barca bid in the region of £30 million then i wouldn't be surprised if we sold him

£30 million? 20m max we would get if we even considered the stupid thought.

whilst i agree every player has a price 20m is just daft for such a quality midfielder.

He is still only 25 years old & can only improve as he reaches his peak.

If i had to sell him it would be for 25m minimum

I would not sell. He is going to be key to our rise to the top.

The only way I see this happening is we get a huge bid, at least 30m for me, and Rafa has someone better and cheaper lined up.

Thought you'd sell for anything above £15m

                            Well done lad!

Seriously though, I can't see Xabi quitting Liverpool... Not now. Maybe when he's 30, but for now, he stays with us!
