I agree with vip & Matt, I don't know what the hostility is towards Voronin. People are claiming 'Bring Pongolle back' - without reminding themselves that Pongo has explicitly stated he will NOT come back to this club.
"No, I do not see myself at Liverpool next year, it is over," he said to RMC in response to a question.
"I have been important for them, helping them to win cups, scoring in the Champions League and FA Cup.
"But I feel very good in Spain. The league is more technical, less direct, and I have scored five goals. I want to do more than the club's best scorer record of 10 goals."
On top of that, Fowler isn't the fastest, neither is he the strongest and he's just getting on a bit. Voronin is pacey, strong, powerful and scores good goals (tap-ins, headers, long range etc.), he's experienced and would fit the bill as a replacement (and he's free & wages won't be high).
Now people will start going on about 'Yea but who did we ever get on a free who was good, you get what you pay for blablabla'. I'd rather we paid **** all for a striker who's strong, decent, nothing out-of-this-world than spend 5-6 million for someone else of the same calibre.
I think some on here underestimate Voronin and are basing their opinions on little knowledge (probably just on stats).
Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see. I trust Rafa would have seen something to make this move, it's not as if he sits in his office and thinks 'Hm, yea, who's the most disastrous player I could find which will really piss off everyone'...
