I agree with vip & Matt, I don't know what the hostility is towards Voronin. People are claiming 'Bring Pongolle back' - without reminding themselves that Pongo has explicitly stated he will NOT come back to this club.

"No, I do not see myself at Liverpool next year, it is over," he said to RMC in response to a question.

"I have been important for them, helping them to win cups, scoring in the Champions League and FA Cup.

"But I feel very good in Spain. The league is more technical, less direct, and I have scored five goals. I want to do more than the club's best scorer record of 10 goals."

On top of that, Fowler isn't the fastest, neither is he the strongest and he's just getting on a bit. Voronin is pacey, strong, powerful and scores good goals (tap-ins, headers, long range etc.), he's experienced and would fit the bill as a replacement (and he's free & wages won't be high).
Now people will start going on about 'Yea but who did we ever get on a free who was good, you get what you pay for blablabla'. I'd rather we paid **** all for a striker who's strong, decent, nothing out-of-this-world than spend 5-6 million for someone else of the same calibre.

I think some on here underestimate Voronin and are basing their opinions on little knowledge (probably just on stats).

Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see. I trust Rafa would have seen something to make this move, it's not as if he sits in his office and thinks 'Hm, yea, who's the most disastrous player I could find which will really piss off everyone'...

I would hazard a guess that this deal was done before any confirmation of takeovers and investment was completed.
As such, if Rafa likes the player and had an opportunity to get him on a free, then obviously he wouldve taken it.
I wouldnt take the signing as a statement of intent by the club regarding new signings or a lack of ambition.

Why was this deal done before the takeover? Rafa surely could have waited and by all accounts this deal is just recently rubber stamped. We are not getting unlimited funds liek Chelsea so Rafa has to be smart. We need four strikers, Fowler´s legs aren´t up to it a year from now so we need some as fourth choice, why not get him on free and save some cash for more important players?

I realise he´s not worldbeater but he´s had a couple of very good seasons though all in all and has been playing for ****e teams, he is at a good age too and ticks Rafa´s boxes re. work rate and power. Sensible deal IMO.
        * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Isnt this reaction similar to the one that was around when Crouch signed?

Got to give the guy a chance.
          Quit your jibber jabber!!!

Jermaine, you know the song Billie Jean...is it about the tennis player??

As has already been said, I think he'll come in to replace Fowler.

Hopefully there'll be another striker arriving which will probably see the departure of either Bellamy or Crouch, but the signing of Veronin means nothing as regards whether we have moeny to spend or not. I think Rafa's seen that this lad is available and has snapped him up as cover, then he'll hopefully go out and buy a quality striker in the summer to complete our strike-force.

Rafa likes his workers and this Veronin lad apparently can run all day and works hard for team, and he can also play anywhere across the frontline which gives us options. He might turn out to be quite a decent sub in the future.

I haven't seen the lad play at all so I can't comment on whether he'll be great or just ****, but I'm willing to give the lad a chance and see what he's capable of once he's a Red.

Really, I'd say that is a good description of your attitude. You have already written the guy of before he has even pulled a shirt on, good attitude that.

                  i certainly hope not anyway.
neither of them are good enough, good squad players. if we want to win the title we need a goal scorer.

                        Welcome to Anfield, Andriy!
Hope you are not put off by the doomongering shown above.
I know one thing & that is if you are good enough for Rafa, you are good enough for me & LFC.
Muppets above spending too much time on CL manager deem themselves worthy of an opinion to judge a player before a ball is kicked in anger!:whatever:
Just be true to yourself & do the business when you are called upon!
Score a winner in the last minute against Scum at the old toilet & you will never be forgotten or do something similiar to what Smicer did in the CL Final & you will be laughing!

Voronin is a good technical player with plenty of power & energy.
So what if he hasn't set the Bundesliga on fire but he has survived it thru with **** managers using him wrongly or having other **** players around you gonna make you look good?
Rafa will turn him into 10million player after a couple of months playing with superior players around him.

Have faith in Rafa if you are not sure about Voronin cos belittling the acquisition of Voronin means that you are belittling Rafa's judgement so shame on you!
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

has any one looked at the you tube compilation. i know that any one can be made out to look great on youtube. but if you see what kind of goals he is scoring, it the exactly one we are not scoring now. he's a box striker, he doesn't create he just score crappy goals as he just seem to be in the right place, picks up second ball, and gives it all in the box. something we just don't have at the moment...

i hope can come good for us...
