    £60 million to spend

Wouldnt normally get dragged into this bollox championship manager style debate where everyone thinks they are world class scouts and tacticians..... but i cant resist now that we potentially can compete in the transfer market

I think Alves would be an excellent buy, whether for right back to push finnan and eventually replace him - but also a far better player than pennant who has been massively disappointing. He is young enough and as i understand the rumours circulating in the press hes worth between 10 and 15 million.

Im with several of the folks on here that thinks that gerrard will spend more time than not on the right wing from here on in and i dont really have an issue with it when you have 3 midfielders like alonso, sissoko and mascherano. Those that disagree - see barca last week. Therefore i dont think an out and out winger is required and Alves is the man.

Secondly we will need a further centre back to replace Hyypia - as palletta looks a bit pony if were honest. I would controversially attempt to nick Woodgate off middlesborough. If he can stay fit he is absolutely world class and him and carragher would be awesome - not forgetting Agger who has looked a real class youngster. I say this not being sure entirely sure where arbeloa will play when he gets his chances.....

Then we also potentially need a left midfielder - who this is, i dont claim to know - but until gonzalez begins to pick things up - it is a bit of a hole in the team. Did anyone watch that chile v ireland game before the start of this season - Gonzalez was absoltely class! It is also worth noting that aurelio is a bit of a forgotten man and although hes not quick - he is a quality player and someone that could play left back and allow riise to play in midfield on occasion - as at the nou camp.

Finally i would be attempting to sign 1 absolute superstar striker. I dont think we need more - id be disapointed to lose crouch or bellamy and think of the 2 it will be bellamy that will go because quite frankly hes a bit of a prick, that doesnt however alter the fact that he is a very good footballer that is desperate to win games at all costs. I wont spout cliches about crouch we know hes a big lad (although he cant head it) hes intelligent, hes commited and skillfull. Kuyt is a great team man and a brillaint addition to the team - but to be picky- hes just not quite in the very higest bracket of strikers - and Eto if available could be the big signing that hicks and gillette sanction to stamp their authority on proceedings.

Talk of torres and eto and bent and laquinta and ashton and villa, the absolte necessity to have a player scoring 20 goals - its not 1986, people talking formations is all bollox. We dont need many players to just tip us over the edge to being a championship winning side.

So i reckon to do all that is at least 60 million - do we think this is realistic? I still cant quote fathom figures this large and i wont believe it till i see it.

Also - can people stop quoting Tribal football, surely we are more intelligent than that. THE single worst website since koptalk.

    Thanks for reading.

In my opinion, very little will change in terms of transfer policy except for one major difference.

IF there is a world class player who we can realistically persuade to join us, then I think funds for that player will be made available. I think it only applies to genuine world class players like Eto'o

agre mate, Rafa will have a decent budget in the summer, but if and when he needs the money to buy a big name player then it'll be there. I reckon we wont be too different to Utd in the respect.

Talk of 60 million is unrealistic IMO. I think there'll be one huge player (probably a striker) come in and lots of good players as improvements.

Wouldnt disagree with any of that except to say that i think Arbeloa has been bought as a back-up/utility player to play anywhere across the back line, for the same reasons that Rafa wanted Lucas Neil.

i second that meastro - Ryan youve left a mini squad of players out that will be involved next year - Bale and richards are both overpriced and unnecessary for us although i suppose you could argue between alves and richards.

                        I don't think £60m is unrealistic.

Gillett and Hicks have showed that they are prepared to spend big in the transfer market. They want to be seen as winners.

If Eto'o for example is available for £35m then I think Rafa would get the money to sign him.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Well we've all said that, but then where are we going to spend the other 25 million of the pot?
