    Carra eyes Prem glory

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher says he will not be happy until he wins the Premiership title.

Carragher has won every trophy going with The Reds, although helping the Merseysiders be crowned champions has eluded the versatile defender.

The England international has doubts whether Liverpool can claw back the 16-point gap on Manchester United this term and make a serious challenge.

Carragher is hoping seeing off The Red Devils this weekend, live on Sky Sports 1, can cement third place before making a renewed bid for the title next season.

"Just like the fans, I want to bring the Premiership title home," said Carragher.

"It's the last thing I need to tick off in my career and I won't be happy until we've done it.

"Maybe Manchester United and Chelsea are too far ahead for us to be involved in the title this season but I think we are a better team now than we were last year.

"We want to make sure we don't finish any lower than third in the Premiership.

"Our record against the top teams is something we've got to get right over the next few years if we are to make that step up to become champions.

"I don't think there is a big gap between us and Chelsea, United and Arsenal."

We managed to rectify it, though, because it now says, "Cook" where it once said "Cock", and "Pass" where it once said "Piss", so it’s slightly less rude.

This year should have been our year really - Chelsea imploding and a weak but lucky Man U side romping away with it. YOu just know these two will reinforce big this summer.

      So are we!

btw, this talks about "eyeing for premiership" are getting ridiculous! Everyone and I mean EVERYONE associated with LFC (one way or another) eyes that! There's no point in giving statements about that - it's bloody obvious

Chelsea did that last year and look what good it did them.

I trust Rafa to get the most of the players we get.

Much as i love Carra, i wish they'd stop rabbiting on about the title. How many times have we heard this over the years?

Dont talk about it, just go and do it.

I'd say 16 points suggests there's quite a sizeable gap between us and the manc ****s.

... And there's also this whore named Lady Luck and sluts with a surname Fixtures between us and the Mancs (mainly, they sleep with the scum)...

Personally, I don't think man utd have been lucky. ****-head has got them organised, working hard and playing very well. Don't get me wrong, I despise them as much as the next man, but credit where it's due. Any manager/team that can do so well, despite regularly fielding the likes of fletcher and sung-park, deserve some kind of accolade. If the last few seasons (thier demise seemingly well under way) are anything to go by, Utd should be lucky to qualify for the CL, yet barring a miracle, they'll be crowned champions again.

Utd will win no.19 before we do.

Actually forget i typed that BUT the way things are going, with their luck and if Rafa doesn't quickly 'get' English football like he does Europe it's an embarassing and humiliating situation we could be facing in a few years - one of our proud long held records lost to the mancs of all clubs. English football requires fast, pacey, go get 'em attacking football home and AWAY with lots of goals in the 'FOR' column - our history of winning leagues prooves that point, not the calm patient European style that will hopefully win us no.6 in May.

Yes, bad luck and fixtures have been the only things keeping us from the title for the last 17 years...

                      Of course, silly me.

Fair one, the only thing they have been slightly fortunate about is injuries, their key players have all been fit and available virtually all season.
I think they deserve the title this year all things considered.

The midfielders they signed all have to fit around Lampard as well because of his limitations and IMO this has greatly affected Chelski this season.

                            I concur

At least twice a season for god knows how long Carra has come out with this, and when he doesnt Gerrard does.
Need to get on with the task of winning consistently and making a genuine challenge against the top 2 rather than talking about "the gap".

Carragher credits Houllier with saving Liverpool career
                              tribalfooball.com - March 02, 2007

Jamie Carragher credits Gerard Houllier for keeping his Liverpool career on course when he was younger.

The defender told the Daily Mail: "He once told me I'd be finished by the time I was 26 if I carried on the way I was.

"I wasn't drinking every day. Nothing like that. I just liked going out with my mates on a Saturday night. He thought it was bad, though. He accepted the lads having a drink once a month but not once a week.

"I don't want people to get the wrong idea. I would never drink before a game. I did it once and it did affect me. We played Leeds on a Saturday morning and we were playing again in the UEFA Cup on the Thursday.

"I went out on the Sunday. I think it was a christening or something, and we'd had a good result in the first leg of the European game and I thought I'd get away with it. We still got through but I just didn't feel right.

"There was another time when I got sent off and, the way the games worked out, I had about 40 days without a game. I went out one Saturday night and when I came in the next day Gerard somehow knew what I'd been up to. He pulled me on it and I said 'but I'm not playing for ages'.

"But he asked me who I'd been out with and when I said, 'My dad', he couldn't believe it. He thought my dad was somehow trying to ruin my career. It was just a pint with my dad, but I had to train morning and afternoon for the next six weeks.

"It was like I was in detention at school. In twice a day, every afternoon with the fitness coach, even though I never had to play. He just thought I'd be in the pub otherwise.

"He did have a point, though, and when I think of him and Rafa I think of two great teachers I've had in my career. Gerard once sat me down and talked to me about players who were notorious for having a drink, who'd all suffered badly with injuries. He mentioned Roy Keane, Bryan Robson, Peter Reid, who was one of my heroes as a kid.

"I also got older. I was a dad at 24 and eventually I realised what was important, realised I had to make the most of the talent I've got."
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
