    Failing to score goals

So far this season we've failed to score in 9 [NINE] premiership games.

Is our midfield providing enough service for our strikers?
Are our strikers short of what is required at the 'top level'?

For the record Man U have failed to score in all but two premiership games. That my friends is why they are sitting atop the league and we are some way back.

Our midfield isnt doing enough work to create for our strikers they are having to do too much work on the flanks and dropping deep they are not prolific, they are not in the box troubling the defenders and we have no midfielders running in because Alonso Sissoko arnt the type and gerrard is out wide half the time covering for pennants lack of ability thus loosing alot of our attacking threat in the centre so it makes for not scoring.

Both, plus Rafa's tactics are a tad too defensive at times...

9 games?! That's alot more than I expected.

As for the reasons as to why I think it's probably a bit of everything. We jst nedd a bit of refinement and a few new players and we'll be right.

As a team we're not clinical enough. You can't just seperate strikers and midfielders, you attack as a team and defend as a team.
We waste too much possession and in the final third we don't punish teams often enough. The simple solution is- better players.

exactly. Stevie should play in the middle in all the games imo. We need better wingers and strikers.

your just going to have to get used to that im afraid.
              ITs his way.
I think a big reason we havnt been scoring as many as Rafa would like is due to lack of a real quality finisher, i know people are going to say what about Robbie, but we also know Rafa likes people to cover alot of ground and work very hard, Robbie ust isnt up to that IMO.
Lack of real quality on the singshasnt helped either
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Yep. I'd go with Stevie and Xabi in the middle in most matches.

This old chestnut eh? Perhaps when we get a couple of decent wingers then we'll have the luxury of playing him in the middle.

Playing with 2 d/m, and width players like Pennant & Gonzales (wingers who can't or hardly ever find the net) and strikers such as the three we have (all hard working support strikers) who all play to a finisher, means we don't create enough box chances, a lot of shots on goal are excellent strikes from in and around the 18 yeard box, we have no jinxy nippy poaching goal hanger who knows the angles and can play others in, no creative m/f spark either laying it on a plate for the scorers.

Our CMs (when it's Alonso and Momo) dont know what the opposition box looks like.

3 out of our 4 midfielders offer basically zero goal threat.

Our strikers come short and go out wide, leaving ONE or at most, TWO men to aim at in the box.

I've been banging on about this all season.

Men into the box = goal threat.

We dont get bodies in the box. We score less goals. We win less games.

                      It aint fecking rocket science.

Last minute luck against us and Fulham gave them 4 extra points to name a few games.

but when he plays on the middle he gets lost so many times, he was everywhere when he was on the right against the mancs but the last 10 minutes when he played in the middle he was nowhere to be found...

all of our striker s should be dropped, none of them are good enough or score enough goals.

We pretty much create enough chances to win every game whether Gerrard is in the middle or on the right but our strikers don't have a high enough conversion rate in enough games; problem is there aren't that many strikers who do at the top level. It's the job of the manager to find at least one preferably more.

One of the things we need to do better IMO is managing to pass the ball to Gerrard half way between the middle circle and the box. where he can turn and/or keep running and find the pass through and do all sorts of other damage.

And I agree with Diego, our current strikers are not good enough.

                              So I say again:

                              Eto, Tevez, Klose/Huntelar
