i think in the modern game if you play with 3 DM you have to play with wingbacks, in defence you need to you need to block the attack coming from left to right and in attack you need width.Originally posted by 6sheep

aurelio is a wingback riise could also work, think finnan could do the job as well, but we have no other RWB
alonso and gerrard would have to use more of their width whilst attacking to cover for the WB
in this line up you would have no room for our wingers witch would mean that garcia, kewel, gonzales, pennant would basicly be out of the team.

I would carry on with a 4-4-2 but in a diamond formation.I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. It depends on the opposition. Pennant and Gonzo are deployed as Wingers in a formation that goes all out for attack. If Wingbacks were required, then Riise and Finnan would play deeper, practically forming a back 5.I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.Comment

If playing a back 3 we need specialist wing backs. I think Riise, Aurelio and Speedy can play in this role on the left but I think Finnan is a bit too defensive for this role and Pennant lacks the discipline. In an Ideal world we would sign Alves for the RWB position and if we manage to tie the Kuyt deal up this week then I think our best formation could well be:
