And the pin point cross to Crouch at the end was substandard?.....not to mention how he took the pressure off our defense for the last couple of minutes!....FFS give him a break. His first season has been average but he could be an important squad player next year

It's so easy to come on a forum like this and slag players off though, isn't it? However, ALL the players that have been slated this week were bought by Benitez - sorry, I meant 'Beni' - so why don't the moaners have a go at him?Originally posted by keniget View PostHe's improved recently, but he's still not good enough for us. YNWA is great and all that when they're on the pitch, but we need better.
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

The main problem for me with Pennant is we haven't got the striker in the box to convert his crosses, like wise Aurelio.
Both provided good crosses last night that we should be atleast getting a shot, header on target.
Pennant looks to play on confidence, and if there's no one converting his chance's it's going to effect him.
Is he world class - no, but with a quality goal scorer he can be very effective.
Last couple of games he's put in some excellent crosses that should be winning us games. Its times like these we learn to live again FF

Err, that's a bit of a stupid notion. Sorry.Originally posted by rushscored4 View PostIt's so easy to come on a forum like this and slag players off though, isn't it? I don't frequent this forum as much as some of you, but Benitez rightly gets plenty of criticism from some quarters. His record in the transfer market has been rather mixed.

I agree we need better and Pennant has been disappointing. First few months of the season he was atrocious. But he has steadily improved since and is starting to show that he can offer us something with the quality of his delivery. So although I don't think he's good enough to be starting for us, I do think he'll make a decent squad player.Like blood on iron

His record in the transfer market has been rather mixed.Irony, from the Greek εἴρων (eiron), is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is a gap or incongruity between what a speaker or a writer says, and what is generally understood (either at the time, or in the later context of history). Irony may also arise from a discordance between acts and results, especially if it is striking, and known to a later audience. A certain kind of irony may result from the act of pursuing a desired outcome, resulting in the opposite effect, but again, only if this is known to a third party. In this case the aesthetic arises from the realization that an effort is sharply at odds with an outcome, and that in fact the very effort has been its own undoing.
More generally, irony is understood as an aesthetic valuation by an audience, which relies on a sharp discordance between the real and the ideal, and which is variously applied to texts, speech, events, acts, and even fashion. All the different senses of irony revolve around the perceived notion of an incongruity, or a gap, between an understanding of reality, or expectation of a reality, and what actually happens.
