I think he gets overhyped on here sometimes. He's defensively very good and certainly was excellent at that on Tuesday. What was also impressive against Barca was his attacking play which I think is usually nothing special at all and I can sometimes find quite frustrating.

We all know he's weak in the air, something Barca of course didn't exploit and he's not the best athlete in the world which means he can't get up and down the pitch, at pace, like some (a few) full backs can.

I'm not having a go at him, I think he's a good player and again he did stand out, along with Carra, on Tuesday.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

A player who STILL doesn't have a song. Why not? Even "theres only one Stevie Finnan" would do. The lad has been here too long not to have a song in my view.

His first season was pants and then from then on he's our most reliable consistent performer. You know exactly what you're getting from Finn and its about time the appreciation came from the terraces rather than just the internet.

I think he just has one of them names though, hard to put into song, but yes, even something like "theres only one Steve Finnan" would do.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

is that the one that goes something like

"we got a right back, called Steve Finnan, when he's playin were always winnin, Passes the ball back out and in again, We've got a right back called Steve Finnan" - i think it sounds ok tho - think if it took of it would be a decent chant imo

Apologies for the choice of song,
but what about this, to the tune of Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer"

                        O000h he's everywhere,
                        Oh-oh Finnan what a player!
Get past him? Try it if you dare
                        Oh-oh Finnan what a player!

                        I'll get my coat.

Tuesday night may just have been his best game for the club to date - he was absolutely outstanding. Well played Stevie F.

Finnan had such a great game the other day and rarely lets us down. He's in the squad all the time, never bitches about anything, gets on with his game and does it damn well. Its only because he's not a superstar on the level of Gerrard, Carra etc that he doesn't get all the mainstream recognition that the other lads get.

                                I appreciate Steve Finnan!
