    Gerrard torn over stadium switch

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits he feels torn about the prospect of leaving Anfield for a new stadium.

But the Reds skipper insists he backs plans to build a new ground in Stanley Park and boost the club's ability to generate more cash for quality players.

Gerrard told LFC Magazine: "I'd love to stay at Anfield but you have got to look at the bigger picture.

"I see the pros and cons for financial reasons but to win things, the time has come for us to go for it."

Gerrard witnessed another classic night of Anfield glory on Tuesday as Liverpool secured an away goals victory against Barcelona to seal a Champions League quarter-final slot.

New American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks also experienced that themselves for the first time but also used their visit to discuss plans for the new Stanley Park venture.

And England midfielder Gerrard has revealed he will be "gutted" when the doors are finally closed on the old stadium for the last time.

But he added: "The Liverpool supporter in me says I want to stay at Anfield because it's the spiritual home.

"But as a player I want to be up there competing for every single trophy we can win.

"When you look at Manchester United and Arsenal they are pulling in more punters than we are and it makes a difference to our revenue. We are playing catch-up every season."

We dont have a choice really.

Unless we want to go another 17 years without the league title.

        Sad, but true.

That confirms that he'll be staying and signing a new contract until at least 2010.

This just to prepare the terrain when the Journos will be writing stories about Gerrard to Real in the summer.

Nice to see we're not fans but just "punters"...
