    US takeover accepted at Anfield

    Last updated:Friday 9-Mar-2007 07:35:39

George Gillett and Tom Hicks have secured unconditional control of Liverpool after meeting the acceptance condition.

A statement to the Stock Exchange on Friday morning confirmed the American pair on Thursday "received valid acceptances in respect of 28,089 Liverpool shares, representing approximately 80.7% of Liverpool's issued share capital to which the offer relates".

Shareholders had been given until Monday to respond to the offer of £5,000 per share from Gillett and Hicks' Kop Football bid vehicle and a positive response has seen the pair comfortably reach the 75% required.

Also means that the new stadium is secured 100%.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Builders were supposed to come in before end of march / beginning of April ... RS4 should have something to say about that as he's friends with one of the builders I assume ...

I think that there will be a lot of special delivery letters being posted today as a few share holders were waiting to see what happens. Now the club has reached over 80.7% plus the fact that they could miss out on the next round of the champions league and all future tickets including cup finals there will feel a need to sell.
I also think that you will see Morgan sell his 5/6% share holding as he wont be now gaining anything from this.

                    Morgan. I forgot about him.

Imagine where we might be with him in charge.
                    Oh I don't know.

                      Builders? Friends? Me? God forbid!

I know one of the senior architects but I haven't seen him for a couple of weeks. I'll ask him over the weekend. Originally they were meant to start in February but Statler and Waldorf asked for their own architects in the States to look over the plans. Although the digging will start this month, I think there could be a few alterations to the plans though nothing structural.

The capacity must remain at 61,000 because of the planning permission granted so please don't let this thread turn into yet another "Oi t'ink we should make it seventy foive t'ousand" debate...

£215million is expected to be ploughed into a new 60,000-seater stadium at Stanley Park.

Gillett and Hicks are set to hold meetings about the project this week and work on the stadium is set to get underway imminently.

Dont know if you know anything about this mate but how much easier will it be to expand the stadium once it's complete? I'm thinking in terms of cost, planning permissions, whether the stadium itself makes it easy to increase capacity.

I think 61,000 is quite a low capacity and if we're going to be successful on the pitch like the yanks have promised then there'll still be a lot of disappointed people who will struggle to get tickets.

PS, this isn't a "Oi t'ink we should make it seventy foive t'ousand' question - more a question of "what if..."

Dhav, this has been asked many times before. I don't think anything is impossible but with the cost of the new stadium and the amount of work needed on the roads and infrastructure around the ground I would seriously doubt capacity could be increased by much in the future. I'd like to think we could just raise the height of the stands later (like Man U have done) but I don't think it's that easy for a new stadium...
