    1. When I announced the new architects were HKS from Dallas that was my educated guess but it has now been confirmed by my source
    2. HKS are probably the best known and biggest architects practice in the world for sports stadia
    3. The current architects AFL haven't yet been formally sacked but are assuming that they've lost the contract to manage the stadium project
    4. That does not mean the original design has definitely been discarded as architects not only design a building but project-manage the construction thereafter
    5. Steve Unwin (known as "Wolfman"), who managed the Liverpool team at AFL and was the guy that Trousers met, has now left AFL and set up his own practice
    6. AFL have unsuccesfully tried to recruit a replacement project manager (after Unwin left they approached my mate but he turned them down)
    7. They have also been unsuccesful in recruiting a team of 10 - 15 architects for the stadium project
    8. Secretly, the Directors at AFL are relieved that they've lost the contract to oversee building the new stadium as they couldn't get a team together
    9. Because of all these factors Messrs Gillett and Hicks have lost faith with AFL and asked HKS to see what can be improved
    10. AFL have also lost the Mohamed Bin Zayed Stadium for Al Jazira FC in Abu Dhabi but this is also still showing as one of their current projects on their website

Sorry it's not any more interesting news fellas but I'm trying to find out as much as I can...

    Thanks for that rushie...

UNWIN TO SPEARHEAD AFL EXPANSION (March 2nd 2005)

Leading North West Architect, AFL, has recruited Steve Unwin to head up its expansion into Liverpool and take a lead role in driving residential and regeneration projects in the region.

Joining as Associate Director and head of the Liverpool office, Steve brings 20 years’ experience to AFL with previous projects spanning commercial, residential and leisure. Regeneration has been a key focus most recently and prior to joining AFL he played a key design role in the relocation of Littlewoods Home Shopping into the Grade II listed Hanger at Speke.

Steve’s wide-ranging regeneration expertise also includes a £12 million competition winning town centre redevelopment of Cheetham Hill District Centre in Manchester, a major component of the North Manchester regeneration initiative.

Comments Steve: “This is a very exciting opportunity to join a very well-established and highly respected firm at an important point in its development. The Liverpool and Manchester offices will work closely together and I will be striving to build a team in Liverpool to ensure that AFL’s presence in Liverpool follows on from the success of the Manchester office. We already have a strong client base in Liverpool which includes Liverpool and Everton Football clubs and an increasing number of private developers who respect our ability to combine ‘creativity’ with ‘deliverability’ and I look forward to building on this over the coming months.”

Garry Rowlands Director of AFL comments: “When we decided to build a strong presence in Liverpool we knew we would need someone that could combine architectural flair with strong sales skills and commercial awareness. Steve’s background fits perfectly with both our company culture and our objectives in Liverpool and he is already proving a valuable addition to the team.”

Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
