I've said this many times last year even during the heights of the Koptalk Crouch bashing campaign that Rafa rates the player VERY highly.

The quotes there doesn't surprise me at all. It is just a simple case of a manager telling another one of his player that there is room for improvement.
"In fact I’m going to make a promise which will be welcomed by many. If there’s no finance secured by the opening day of the season, I’m going to hang up my keyboard and close KOPTALK down."

When was the last time he did that so publicly?

I don't live in the Uk so I'm genuinely interested.

I personally want Fowler and Bellamy upfront but if we sign Kuyt it would be great. (going by what respected members say)
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          Sanz Luis Garcia
          Steven Gerrard
          Fernando Morientes
          Pepe Reina
          Momo Sissoko

These are just a few I can think of from the top of my head...

Can't be bothered to dig up all the articles for you

Most players get a mention and it's the same old stuff: you've done well but you can get better.

I don't see how Rafa has made this more "public" than the others. His comments aren't any different from comments directed at other players. The only difference being that it has been picked up, predictably, by the newspapers with a somewhat deceiving headline: "CROUCH WARNED BY BENITEZ". Not surprising really given all the ridiculous bashing etc they had given the player in the past...

Fair enough. I really didn't know that - allthough I remember him saying that Garcia needed to 'do the simple things' etc. at a time when he was getting a lot of criticism from some (silly) fans.

If Rafa rates Bellamy & Kuiyt higher as goalscorers then i think the theory is out of the window regards Crouch.
Personally i think Crouchie is toast in the grand scheme of things, bench warmer most of the time,he's a fall back option in my eyes, change the game type of player but you have to admit he just won't score the amount of goals that we need to win the league, don't get me wrong,he has lots to offer but he'll never be good enough as a leading man,Robbie,Craig & Dirk will be doing most of the scoring in my view. That's the way i see it anyway.
