    Some love for Finnan

We all love him. Heres more reason to..

Liverpool full-back Steve Finnan is currently the best defender in the Premiership according to The Actim Index.
The index is calculated from goals, shots, passes, dribbles, assists, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, time on the pitch and the number of points gained by a player's team. Marks are deducted for red and yellow cards.

Finnan is the top performing defender this season, beating Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville into second and third place.
Mind you when I showed this to my UTD friend it was the ever ending condescending reply of Finnans crap, stats mean nothing, etcetc. So I said I guess the stats are wrong that the top goalkeeper is Van Der Sar, the top midfielder is Ronaldo, and the rest of the top 5 defenders, aside from Finnan, are UTD players. I tell you the excuses fly unless its a UTD player. What I'd give to have a Liverpool supporting friend

I'm not one of his biggest fans. I find him very frustrating at times. Especially when we've gone a goal behind, he goes into 'safe' mode and looks to go backwards or sideways at every opportunity. BUT against Barca we was superb. Almost faultless.

First and foremost I like my defenders to be able to defend - He's ****ing quality at that

Secondly - Its handy if they can go forward and once again he's the leading assist man from right back in the Premiership just like he was last season, he might not bomb forward and do 100 pointless stepovers which some like to see but he's an incredible crosser of the ball. In that spell against Spurs, Blackburn and someone else around Xmas time he laid about 10 chances straight on a plate for Crouch (Mainly), Garcia and a few others and none were taken which was annoying, he's leading right back assist man in the Prem again as I said, he's got assists in Europe, Bellamy in Barca, Crouch against Gala etc. He's ****ing brilliant.

I do think he has two glaring deficiencies though - he's very poor in the air (although few times try to expose this weakness) and he can be ponderous and indecisive in possession, and many of our attacks lose impetus when Finnan gets the ball.

He does everything else very well, though - it's just a shame he's pushing 31.

Aye that is a shame mate, hopefully he can keep this level up a few years yet. Arbeloa certainly is looking promising so far aswell although obviously hasnt had the chance in the League.

Jesus, I can never understand why people look down at Finnan. He is quality in attack and defending. Consistantly brilliant!

Stevie Finnan is a truly brilliant right back.

Not forgetting that cross for Trigger that won the dutch game for Ireland all those years ago. He has been Mr Consistent (forgetting his first season at anfield) for about 10 years or so.

He's quality alright. Such consistent players are few and far between. He much better at going forward than people give him credit for and excellent at the back. Man of the match v Barcelona for me.

My only criticism is that he gave away both free kicks that led to the scums last minute goals against us last season and this. But i forgive him, just.

I dont just love him, I'm IN love with him
