      That may not be a bad idea
      Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
      'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

      "Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

        OK I've tried keep tabs on all the young players through forums and watching reserve team highlights:

        Adam Hammill - He's kicking ass in Scotland, the fans love him there and rate him highly - he's even got a song dedicated to him (and thats saying something). He's played really well and has a fantastic eye for goal. You may not believe this but I dont think there's many players in the first team at Liverpool who have a better shot than him from long range. This man has a future and we may not need to look to the continent for a top class winger. This guy can go down either wing and is built like a tank.

        Paul Anderson - been very poor this year and looks too lightweight. Rarely plays as well as last season. A lot of us had hope for him but I seriously doubt he will still be at Liverpool in 1 - 2 years. Damn shame - he looked like an amazing talent.

        Jack Hobbs - he's been injured most the year. He returned this week and looked awesome. He's in the Sol Campbell mould - big and dominant. He lacks positional sense apparently as was seen in pre-season, but at his age this is probably expected. I reckon by the age of 21, this guy might could be a first teamer.

        The Basian Idrizaj guy who's gone on loan today, I actually like him. He's an abosolute giant and has great technique and speed. Not sure whether he'll make it at Liverpool but I think he's the type of player who will be become decent at the age of 24, 25 etc.

        And the Geordie Brewer kid looks quite poor - but he should get better as he settles down and gets used to the English game

          I dont have access to the reserve games, but presonally, from what im hearing, im dissapointed to hear that Anderson isnt progressing as some people thought he was, he was amongst the most exciting tallent
          I have seen coming up at Liverpool for a long while.
          Hows Nabil El Zhar getting on? from the reports he seems to be improving of late.

            and yet another likely to be signing?

            Where are we going to put them all?.

            * Player: Gary Mackay Steven
            * From: Scotland
            * To: Liverpool
            * Cost: "rumoured six-figure sum," our favourite fee
            * Source: the Ross County website
            * Likely?: 5/5

            Is it possible to sign an entire new Reserve side during a calendar year?

            Liverpool have signed yet another youngster to compete for a spot in Gary Ablett’s reserve side with the move of Gary Mackay Steven from Ross County to Anfield. The Dingwall club midfielder had yet to break into the Ross County first team like his countryman and fellow Liverpool target Jamie McCarthy has done at Hamilton Academical, but apparently impressed enough during a trial that Ablett and Rafael Benitez have made the decision to sign him on.

            Dingwall, we like the sound of that locale so much that it bears repeating…

            A few comments of a very typical nature from the Ross County website:

            “Gary will head for the Anfield club's prestigious academy at the end of the English season… We look forward to seeing him light up the Premiership in the coming years… Gary has always been willing to put in the hard work and training to go alongside his exceptional natural skill.”

            Hmm, flatter the Premiership big-money, check, ridiculous hyping of ex-player, check, a little implied flattery for us for developing him, check. All the requisite hoopla taken care of, then

            We’ll not mention the rumours of a “six-figure” sum in compensation for Gary’s services, though…

            Daniele Padelli, Emiliano Insua, Jordy Brouwer, Astrit Ajdarevic, Francisco Duran, Ronald Huth, Sebastian Leto, chuck Steven into that mix and you have eight of eleven players, close to a new first eleven. Rumours about a few more players on the way…

              It's better we have an abundance than none at all, competition for places makes for a healthier choice and a fight for the shirt amongst the youth to actually make it, a hunger for the game that seems to missing at the moment, due to it being too easy.
