    Alonso wants to leave?

Just got this from some Barca site on NewsNow (link http://www.fcbarcelonablog.com/fcbar.../18/title_1095 ). They have a qoute from Xabi in the Daily Star. Sounds like he wants to leave to me. that is if he wasnt misqouted

"Whichever team has the intention of signing me has to talk to Liverpool first. Barcelona is a great city and the club has a special place in my heart because my father played there but in the world of football you need to use a cool head rather than a warm heart when you decide things.
Liverpool have presented me and my agent with a new deal to stay on with Liverpool, but I’m only going to make a decision at the end of the current season.
Right now I’m just focused on doing my best for The Reds as we’re at a crucial junction in the season and need to concentrate if we don’t want to suffer a reverse."

nah mate, not in the slightest. I'd imagine the question would be "so Xabi what do you make of the speculation linking you with Barca? Your father played their so must have some special memories for you?"

      Same quotes as before.
Doesn't mean anything like he wants out to me.

There was also some quotes at the beginning of that saying he didn't want any distractions and talk now during the season.

that scares me a bit though. how much of a distraction would it be? many players who are happy with what they are being offered and are happy at a club would sign without any hassle. It sounds to me that he is keeping his options open which could be bad news if Barca come in with an offer at the end of the season

mate, i wouldnt worry about it, most players say that they will discuss the contract at the end of the season, look at someone like Lampard.
If we had a situation, though like Chelski have with Terry when the contract talks have borken down then get worried.

For what it's worth, I dont think Xabi will do an Owen on us.

If he wants to go, then use him as part-ex for Etoo

This would be the only scenario in which I wouldn't be crying at Xabi's exit. I'm a massive fan of Alonso's and yesterday only served to consolidate my previous opinions. We need to keep him, or find a new creative outlet. Simple as that.

If rafa goes in the summer, Xabi might be tempted...

I would let him leave for 20 odd million
