    Will Rafa Run To Real?

    GUILLEM ANSWERS YOUR QUESTIONS

Hi Guillem, As a Liverpool fan will Rafa Benitez turn down Real Madrid again knowing of all the interference which comes with the job? At my beloved Liverpool he is given full control of football maters and with substantial backing could possibly have a very good team and of course there are the fans who do believe in him. There are not a lot of managers with ability out there with, for the first real time the players coming out in praise of him, which tells me they see his vision of the game which should lead to the team he envisages. Tony, London.

GUILLEM SAYS: Well not to give anything away, but we have an inclusive interview with Benitez on Revista so keep a close eye on what he says because I get the impression that the offer from Real Madrid is very serious and is big in terms of money.
But I also get the impression that if he gets to meet the owners for a second time, they may convince him to stay. It is not about the money, it is about the promise that things are going to change.

I spoke to his agent last week who said it's all just rumours and Rafa is staying. He's got no reason to tell me the truth of course but that's what he said.

in terms of the league we have gone backwards since last year, we have to win all our remaining games to get within 4 points of last years total

progress or failure? its not rocket science

But it is slightly more complex than you are making out. Last year we finished with our highest points tally for 'The Premiership', and through periods, played some of the most effective football we have played in the league for years. If Rafa is given substantial funding, which hopefully he will, and is able to sign the players he wants then I am sure 'progress' will be made.

crikey there are no grey areas with you are there

We have a better overall squad of players - progress
We have recruited lots of youngsters with bags of potential - progress
We have not increased the number of world class players in the team - no movement
We have less points in the league than last season - decline
We have not done so well in domestic cups - decline
We have done better in Europe beating Barca - progress
We have got through a very stressfull takeover largely unscathed - progress

The above are just to name a few variable that needs to be taken into consideration.

Overall we have done OK. IMO we have not moved forward leaps and bounds but at the same time the club is not worse off over all. If this takeover had happened last year and Rafa had been able to buy who he wanted to buy ie not pennant and not Bellend and this season would have panned out very differently.

We are only 2 world class players away from winning the EPL. If Rafa gets those players in the summer then he will stay. If he doesn't then he will go. Simple as that really. The ball is in the yanks court - for the clubs future and also Rafa's.

Surely having the likes of alonso, masherano, reina, kuyt etc in the squad is progress from houlliers time in charge. Also we won the fa cup last year so is that not progress aswell???
                              Dare we believe
