Transfer System faces another Bosman-style revolution

    WENGER'S TRANSFER WARNING
    By John Cross 20/03/2007

ARSENE WENGER believes transfers are about to undergo another Bosman-style revolution - and it could cost Arsenal millions.

The Gunners boss is warning that the new FIFA rules allowing players over 28 to buy out their contracts could see a collapse of the transfer market.

And Wenger fears it could end up losing clubs like Arsenal millions and will leave the market unsteady with clubs reluctant to pay big fees for new signings as they could end up worthless.

Chelsea stars Frank Lampard and John Terry could be among the first to leave in cut-price deals as FIFA rules allow players who are over 28 to buy out the last two years of their contracts.

Lampard, 29, could theoretically quit Chelsea for £8million this summer and that has alerted Barcelona - even though the England star insists he wants to stay.

And Wenger warned: "We have not seen the end of prices going up, but we might have seen the end of transfers.

"The transfer rules are in evolution and you wonder if the Bosman rule will be extended to any contract. It can happen. It looks as if we live in a world now where I don't really know the rules anymore.

"It's never been tested by the big clubs and the feeling is if I don't do it then someone will do it to me."

To be honest it is only a natural evolution towards nearly regular transfer rules in the football market place. I'm not convinced that the big teams will loose out that badly as the top players are already on vast contracts meaning that them being bought out will get a reasonable fee for most players who might leave.

The Bosman rule has ended up making very little difference compared to the ludicrous hype that was around at the time. Everyone predicted the end of the transfer market as we knew it then and it didn't happen. I think this is another over reaction.

If it´s only players over 28 I don´t know why Whinger is whining, his teams average age is about 20 :whatever:

i thought it was players over 24 could buy their contracs up after serving 2 or 3 years of it, and players over 28 just one year into the contract, this will sky rocked player wages if true, and loyalty will indefinetly be out the window, it will be like the NFL...

all it will mean is players having longer contracts and if they dont sign a renewal when they have 3 years left they will be sold...similar to what it is now really.
no big deal in my opinion.

Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

oohhh. i think its a stupid rule that can rob clubs of a players true value.

isnt it a player that has 2 years or less left on a contract that he's served for 2 or three years.

so if xabi signs a new contract til say 2011 then the rule cannot come into place until 2009.

i think i remember correctly that it was like that, and isn't is so that players can't sign for more than 5 years at a time? if it wasn't a player could sign a 10 year deal on big wages, and then it would take big bucks to get him out anyway...

i'll try to find the alonso article and post it to shed some light...

found this of a scum site...

The new FIFA ruling stipulates that a contract ceases to be protected after a period of three years if the player was under 28 when he signed. A number of stars could take advantage of the ruling including John Terry, Ricardo Carvalho and Frank Lampard all of Chelsea, Xabi Alonso and Luis Garcia of Liverpool and Gilberto Silva of Arsenal. Under the terms of the regulations United would recoup around £6m for Heinze as he still has two years to run on his contract.
so under 28 it's after serving 3 years of contract over 28 it's after serving 2 years...

can a player sign a contract longer than 5 years?
