One part of his work is to hire the right manager. He got that right when he hired Roffa and the wrong when he hired Houllier.

Hire a manager is only one part of his work. He also has to take care of the financial part and I think you could see for yourself last summer that we almost was skint. Moores had to loan the club £10m so Roffa could sign Kuyt.

He got Roffa right and backed the manager as much as he could but he also in the same time hasn't got good enough sponsorship deals so you could see it in both ways.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Sorry RS4, but trophies or not, Parry has been distinctly average at his job and you will not be able to convince me otherwise. The Houllier thing dragged on far too long and they backed him with funds to the extent that it tied Rafa's hands and put the club on the way to huge debt. They have constantly dithered, whether it has been the search for investment, renewing players' contracts (Owen, McMananaman, Gerrard), purchasing players (has cost us Vidic, probably Alves as well), and don't get me started on the stadium fiasco. People like Gill and Kenyon may be ****s but while Parry is hesitantly blundering through another day they go out and get the job done.

Parry didn't hire Houllier, Peter Robinson did .

How do you propose Parry could solve the problem of us being skint? I know, let's build a new stadium and get more through the gates, just like the mancs. Oh hang on, isn't that exactly what he's doing?

As for sponsorship deals - that's not even in his hands. Granada TV (or ITV as they became), where wholly responsible for that side of thing. They ****ed up with the shirt deal in 2005 and it was only down to Parry and his relationship with Carlsberg (they wanted out at that point) we had anything at all on our shirts.

Before you question what type of job Parry has or hasn't done, it might do you well to find out what his remit is 1st.

All fair points - may I reply as follows:-

The issue of money - they have been looking for investment for so long, given how quickly the deal was done with the Americans why did it take 3 years to get it done?

As regards the new stadium, yes this is our biggest potential revenue stream, but it has taken 7 years to get to the stage of starting works and even then the whole thing has been reviewed because Parry has stuck us with a design that not only is 7 years old but also the Americans clearly aren't satisfied with. In this time Arsenal have built a new stadium and the long-delayed Wembley has completed - before we've even started work on our generic souless stadium.

Re sirt-sponsorship - Why is something as important as shirt sponsorship outsourced to Granada? Bascombe may say they've done a great job with the website, but how much £ does that bring in compared to the woeful online store could or shirt sales can? Why was the sponsorship deal signed before the CL final when the rewards could have been much greater after winning the CL final? How could a team that made the CL final have no interested parties for shirt sponsorship? Why after winning #5 you couldn't find a Liverpool shirt anywhere despite it being the biggest opportunity probably in the club's history to make a killing on shirt sales?

At the end of the day as Chief exec shouldn't Parry be responsible for all this?

the buck must stop with someone.

Thanks for clearing that up Rick.

Just listened to the interview, thought uncle tom came over well, and sounded like he knew what he was on about. The interviewer was a right tool, didn't do his research properly, but anyway, would like to hear a similar one with uncle george.
