    Lessons from last summer

If all the new owners bought in was a world class striker (dreaming two) and one (dreaming two) quality winger i'd be overjoyed. Rafa tried this on the cheap last year and Bellamy. Kyut, Pennant nor Speedy have had the impact we all wanted.
Non of our so called 'big money' signings have improved the team enough to compete for the title.

Bellamy is a poor mans Micheal Owen
I'd say Kyut is a poor mans RVN but the only similarity is he's dutch
Speedy I've never seen beat his man, only thing he's speedy at is recovering from what looked like a season ending injury!
Pennant is a midtable superstar at best.

All were bought because they were cheap and not 1st choice targets. You buy cheap you buy twice!

I really hope we've learnt our lesson

I think Kuyt was a first choice for second striker. I also think he has shown enough to imply that with better service and a more consistent partner who spends more time in the box he will be a very good player for us. I think a bit like Drogba when he first came he has altered his game to fit into the managers plans and play a specific role, with greater familiarity with the PL I think next season he will play with greater freedom.

We need squad depth and I think that Pennant has improved enough to show he will challenge for a place next season. I've liked his attitude. He needs to improve further to be considered first choice.

Gonzalez was a bargain of which too much was expected too soon.

Bellamy is a much less effective player than Owen, but he is more creative and does give us good options.

I think that the buys we made last season did improve the squad. A lot of the problems this season have sprung from the crap form of existing players - making it hard for the new boys to settle in.

I'm not sure we will have the money to buy more than one £15m-£25m player and maybe two £10m players. I would concentrate on getting some creativity into the midfield. Although if Stevie were to rediscover the ability to play on the right then that would help considerably.

All good points as usual dww.
Watching the villa game last week - I really thought we could've done with a number 10 (Tevez?) to do something different and ask more questions of the villa defence. We also lacked a natural forward; Fowler was more of a threat in 7 mins than any of our forwards.

In short - we need 2/3 players MAX. The squad is getting better - but we need to improve the quality.

You must be Rafa or Parry in disguise!!! Very good valid points.

          I agree with the above.

This is from Dodgy Rumours and so is 1000% true!! -
              Liverpool Rumours

I know someone who works pretty high up at the Liverpool echo and has very good links with the Liverpool coaching staff.
He said that most of the rumours out there are way off target and that Liverpool will make some very surprising and speculative bids in the summer.

Firstly, David Villa is just a smoke screen in order to sign the youngster Aaron Niguez, who is touted by many as the next David Villa.
Also the Brazilian wonderkid Alexandre Pato is a major target, despite interest from big boys Real and Milan, Liverpool will match their offers.

David Odonkor is another target for the right wing position and would definitely be a cheaper option that players such as Lennon and Quaresma.

But biggest surprise of all is that Benitez has secured the services of Jose Antonio Reyes from Arsenal. He never really adapted to life there but Benitez believes Anfield and its Spanish contingent are perfect for him. The deal will be about 10 - 12 million.

Actually , I think if you can get his head right and his confidence up in order to get him as good as he was in Seville he's a cracking little player for what price you would get him for now.

                  They're quite bif if's though

Rafa should have signed Aimar when Valencia sold him for £6m.

Dont buy 6 or 7 squad players and 'possibilities'.

Spend the kitty on two or three more expensive players of genuine quality.
