    Makes me chuckle...

Just reading the Ronaldo thread in the footie forum and it makes me laugh how he's getting slaughtered, while so many people stuck up for Gerrard after the Sheffield United pen at Anfield. Sheer double standards really.

On Ronaldo: "There was contact, but he dived"

On Gerrard: "It was the defender's fault, because he made contact"

    Couldnt make it up really...

There's a world of difference between Gerrard and C.Ronaldo.

C.Ronaldo does it all the time, Gerrard doesn't.

That isnt the point and you know it. For the record, Gerrard's doing it far more often than i'm comfortable with but the point is regarding the particular incidents in question.

With Ronaldo, there was contact, but apparently he should've stayed on his feet (while running at pace).

Gerrard was stood still, not running, and had no momemtum behind him. Yet, the 'contact' (a baby could've made more aggressive contact than that Sheff United player did) was enough to bring him down, apparently.

        It's embarrassing.

But it's typical football fans, sticking up for there own teams players, no?
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fight back."

Not everyone is like that, some people have the nous to call a spade a spade.

And with regards to what you describe, sure everyone tries to stick up for their own. But there comes a point where the inicident is so obvious that you cant really. And yet, some still do. It's cringeworthy IMO.

Agreed and I don't like it. I couldn't defend the one recently against Sheff United.

Still, he's not in Ronaldo's league - but then there aren't many who are. Deco, one or two others...mostly Portuguese.

One of the biggest mysteries for me is just how much of a pen it was in Istanbul for Xabi's goal.

Sorry, doesnt have much to do with anything, just something I've wondered.

I can't be bothered to argue with you about why it's just as easy to lose your balance when you are trying to gain momentum from a standing position as it is whilst you're running.

Your final paragraph is so ridiculous and full of holes I won't even start on it.

You've got your opinion, suffice to say the majority of the watching footballing public disagree with you.

I'll just leave you with a :whatever:

I agree with you Shaggy, i dont think SG is up there with Ronaldo when it comes to diving. But he does it far more than he should.

It's just comical how two-faced people can sometimes be, and how things can be twisted, to suit a particular agenda.

Every Manc I know has it etched in their memory and they rarely let me forget, but in the main it seemed to be largely overlooked by almost everybody.

                      It was a total dive.

i've also thought this, and it you watch one of the videos where he describes it ( its the sports personality one with dudek and cara talking too)

he says "i felt a pull, and thought, i'm going, i'm going down"

Of course you cant be bothered - because your argument doesnt have a leg to stand on. Ronaldo's was a dive, but Gerrard was cynically hacked down - sure thing. That's our story and we'll stick with it, eh?

Keep your blinkered red-tinted specs on, it's your call.

I prefer to try and be more objective.

So you don't think the fact that Gerrard blatantly pointed the contact out to the ref before the actual final contact has any bearing on the matter?
Why did the defender put his arm out?
                            Answer: To impede Gerrard's run.
Result: A foul in the penalty area

I think this is the conclusion I have arrived at. You see very little contact, yet hardly anyone at the time mentioned that it shouldn't have been a penalty.
