Put the money into top players and use some of the youngsters as squad fillers.

Carrick was the best player at a team that finished 5th in the Prem last year, by Martin Jols own admission.

Koumas is the best player in ateam that is 5th in the Championship. Bit harsh I know, as he was voted best player in the Championship, but theres a BIG difference.

I have previously stated I wouldnt mind if he joined and I stand by that as he would do a good job, but Im not sure he'd improve us enough that would make his signing worthwhile.

For a start we may have more cash but I doubt we could afford to spend
£25m+ on a single player.

Also players like Kaka won't be easily sold by milan. You can't just ring the Sani Siro up and say how much do you want for Kaka, they laugh you out of the place. Why would milan sell their best player to us. Even if they were willing to sell him we'd be up against Inter, Juve, Barca, Real, Chelsea & Man U. Theres every chance he'd go elsewhere, probably to Spain. Even if he wanted to play in England, why choose an emerging LFC side over sides that are challenging for the title ie Man U & Chelsea.

I expect us to buy a better quality of player this summer but not players like Kaka. He's still out of our league in my book.

I'm dreading this summer. The reaction to Veronin was but a sign of things to come I fear, with every non-Kaka signing to be greated with a volume of derision

Rafa's never been the sort of manager to blow seriously large amounts of cash on individual players, even with the resources I'd still see him spending more like a Wenger than a Ferguson. That's not to say I see him going for Jason Koumas though

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is reportedly on the trail of West Brom playmaker Jason Koumas.

The Welsh international is expected to leave the Hawthorns in the summer if the Baggies fail to seal promotion.

Liverpool have now entered the hunt for a player who has already attracted interest from a clutch of Premiership clubs.

Koumas was recently crowned as the Championship Player of the Year and is valued at a figure in excess of £3m.


Not sure how credible the story is...but for £3m i think he would be worth a gamble. He has definately got a bit about him, and IMO could really lift his game at a bigger club.

I think Koumas is awesome, he would be good 5th choice but would prefer Guthrie or a homegrown player.

Koumas is a decent enough player, but as people have said, I think he's found his level. The nice touches and passes don't come consistently enough for him to play for a top club.
