    I rate the lad myself.

He's been very unlucky with injuries this season and whenever he's shown a glimpse of form he's then out injured for a few weeks or so.

I'd give him a few years yet before getting rid as I feel he'll settle well by the end of next season, and if he can say away from these niggling injuries then I predict he'll get his fair share of goals for us from midfield next season.

Give the lad a chance - he's hardly played 30 games for us yet!

      agree with this

after waiting so long for him to be in the squad it would be stupid to sell him now. it's obvious he hasn't settled yet. it's been a strange season, even for the established players like xabi and stevie to name but 2

      give the lad a chance

9 starts in the league and 2 in the CL so far if the stats I read were up to date. I thought he was started to adjust his game and increasingly show glimpses of what we've been looking for, but then he got the first of a few minor injuries. They have definitely disrupted his season. That's not to say he is or isn't good enough but I'd suggest he's probably worth keeping for another season to find out.

More suited to Spain me thinks from what i saw this year. Although injuries have made his season a stop start but nothing ive seen of him has impressed me bar his pace.

Judging him in his first season disrupted by injuries is unfair. The lad has got talent. There aren't many world class left wingers around anyway, so if he were to be sold, what would be the alternatives. There's no way Rafa will sell him.

He isn't a kid, anymore than say Warnock is. he is however at an age where he can reasonable be expected to improve and adapt his game.

He hasn't shown any signs of improvement through the season, he has however been injured a lot. Presonally I think it is worth giving him until at least January to prove he deserves a chance, but if we got a good offer for him it would be tempting to cash in.

Hopefully we will keep both Speedy and Pennant for another season. If they dont cut it then well its time for goodbyes.

I thought he might struggle to adapt before he arrived, even so he's been hampered by injuries mostly, and he hasn't had a sustained run at any point. Right now he's average.

Considering all we went through to acquire him I doubt Rafa will let him leave at this point. I suspect he'll be here next season, but there'll hopefully be increased competition for places, so he'll have to buck his ideas up to cut it.

I just don't understand how so many people seem to know exactly what Gonzalez is capable of? So the almost persistent injuries and lack of starts should be totally disregarded?

I agree with the fact that people are too dismissive. I thought all he needed was a bit of a run but of late Rafa seems to have much less faith in him than he used to - earlier in the season Rafa played him against Man Utd at Old Trafford, which was a big sign in terms of him being rated, recently he has been a peripheral figure even when fit. I hope he proves me wrong as all the signs from his time in Spain were that if he could settle he would be a very good option for us.

                              I don't.

Well, he seems to be very short of confidence, and the way he has been built up by Rafa and some other players indicate that he has more skills to show off.
You can just see when he plays that he needs games and a manager who will let him try and try again.
