I know about the rumours regarding Owen, Lec. I happend to subscribe to a very famous web-****e at the time and was 'in the know'

I don't believe Rafa would have sold him if he really rated him. He would have done more to keep him IMO. That's what I believe anyway. I know that Owen wanted to leave and all that ****e but perhaps Rafa didn't do all he could to make him stay. So in my world part of me believes that Rafa doens't really rate OWen.

I would take him on a free.

He's played about 17 minutes football in the past three years, so who knows what he'll be like when he comes back.

Sign Bendtner. He will be the best Danish footballer since Laudrup.
        he's at Brum isn't he??

saw him against West Brom the other week. He has quite a good touch for a big lad...wouldnt pay much for him though.

Give him 6 months max after he gets back from this injury, and he will be scoring goals left right and centre, i have no doubt.

He may not have the explosive pace of his youth, but he has the knack of being in the right place at the right time, and always produces on the big occasion.

I dont think Rafa rates him myself, which is a shame because if he available id love to see him back in a red shirt.

By the way, for those of you with short memories, check out this link, anyone who says he isnt up there with Rush and Fowler as a goalscoring legend is simply wrong.
I appreciate these links can be selective, but Owen was, is, and will be again, a quite lethal goalscorer and up there with the very best.

            cheers for that Joe.

not many were better at putting the ball into the corner than he was. How many of those goals just snuck in...superb finishing IMO.

Looking at that...he is exactly what we need....if he can back to full fitness.

There are 2 key points relating to Owen, one of which is as clear as daylight, the other which isn't.

Firstly, his ability. Owen is a world class player, end of. You can trot out any stats you want, to prove the argument either way but 1 thing is clear, Owen is top class. He's in a different class to any of our current strikers and would make a massive difference to LFC. If we seriously want to challenge for the title, he's exactly the sort of player we need, top class with English league experience.

The 2nd key point is his leaving of LFC and then his move to Newcastle. Nobody on here knows what went on. Sure there are loads of people who claim to know this & that but only a very few people will truely know. What I know is that all the key LFC people have said they would welcome Owen back. Key players like Sg & Carra have said the same. Now would moores & Parry really say he's be welcome back, if the club had been shafted by him. No.

Owen back at LFC may or maynot ever happen. If he did I would welcome him back with the heroes ovation reserved only for a true LFC great.

Of which he isn't, a good player no doubt, but not an all time great, far from it.

I'm afraid thats nonsense mate. I've been watching LFC since the mid 1970's and Owen is very much in the top level of players i've seen. For example of the current team only Gerrard is a better player than him.

And I go back to early sixties, he is not in my all time great team thank you.

He might make a place in an LFC Hall of Fame, suppose it depends on how many is on your wall of fame that matters, or on a definition of "greats".

                          Fair enough mate.
Its all about opinions of course, and for me Owen is an all time great LFC player.

Owen is one of the best ever scorers for us and if that doesn't mean that he is a Liverpool legend then very few players is that.

You can't judge a players off the field things if a player is a Liverpool great or not. If you did that then you would have to rule out Robbie and a lot of other Liverpool legends. You would then also have to rule out every great player that played for us when we had a bad team and didn't win anything because they didn't win anything.

Owen did what Houlliers system allowed him to do and he did that in an excellent way.

A player can only do what the system and his team mates allows him to do in the best possible way.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Steven Gerrard has admitted England are missing long-term injury victim Michael Owen and is keen to see the Newcastle striker return to the international fold.

Owen has been sidelined since severely damaging his anterior cruciate ligament during the opening minutes of the World Cup group match with Sweden last June.

His proven striking prowess for his country has been badly missed this season and England had managed only one goal in five games before the 3-0 win over minnows Andorra in Wednesday's Euro 2008 qualifier in Barcelona.

But Owen is only a week or so away from returning to full training with Newcastle and reports suggest he could play some part in the home Barclays Premiership clash with Chelsea on April 22.

If Owen proves his fitness, he could come into contention for the away qualifier with Estonia on June 6.

The Magpies will be mindful of rushing Owen back, particularly to play for England as it was the injury on international duty which has deprived them of his services for nine months.

But the inability to replace the 27-year-old's finishing power will mean Steve McClaren would welcome Owen's availability at the earliest opportunity particularly as Wayne Rooney is suspended for the Estonia game.

Gerrard, whose two goals helped England to finally dispose of Andorra, said: "We are missing Michael at the moment. It will be great when he is back.

"Michael is a fantastic goalscorer and he has got a great record at this level. Any team that has got Michael Owen fit and ready, is going to be stronger.

"His record for England over many years has been fantastic and how many times has he come up with the crucial goal?

"We have missed him, of course we have."

Gerrard is still confident England will qualify for the 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland and four of their last five games are at the new Wembley.

He said: "I am sure the table will look a lot healthier in the summer. Then next season we've got to play Russia twice. There is still a lot more football to be played.

"We know we've got to look at the bigger picture and we are confident we can be in the 2008 tournament.

"These games with England are massive and, because we haven't had good results recently before Wednesday, there is a bit more added pressure and a bit more fear of losing.

"But it is up to us to stand up and be counted and we are optimistic of coming through the group successfully."
