But Harry would still be a Liverpool player?
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

          id want that too.
But with 12 months on his contract, and a very dodgy injury record, we wont get that.
I think the best we could hope for is some kind of appearance related contract,, for if he plays over so many games, his fee goes up etc.

Just look at Bolton's valuation of spit the dog these days, over twice what they paid for him.

No matter what we say about Sam A, he does have a tendency to get the best out of what he has.

I just hope we learned our lesson with spit and get a sell on clause inserted!!

I have serious doubts about Kewell's ability to stay healthy for an entire season - but I think he's still our best winger.

I have a feeling that he will come back and play some good football for us before the season is out, reminding the fans of what we would play like with a decent wide player in the side - and leaving Benitez scratching his head over what to do with him again.

                    Kewell is OK to play

AFTER nine months of treatment and trepidation, Socceroos star Harry Kewell is just over a week away from emerging from an injury fog to resurrect his stalled career.

The oft-sidelined Liverpool midfielder, last seen in action for Australia against Croatia at the World Cup, has pencilled April 10 into his diary – the night Liverpool face Sheffield United in a reserve-team outing at Bramall Lane.

After multiple surgeries on foot, ankle and groin ailments, Kewell, 28, is ready to defy predictions of premature retirement by quickly forcing himself back into the Socceroos reckoning for July's Asian Cup finals.

"It's terrific that he's on the way back," said Socceroos coach Graham Arnold last night. "We can't bank on Harry's fitness just yet because of what he's been through but to have him available again would be a huge boost for the team and the country.

"A player of his calibre being fit and hungry lifts everybody around the team. He's world class."

Kewell has been back in training with the Reds, the side he last appeared for in the 2006 FA Cup final against Arsenal, for several weeks.

And according to one teammate shades of the "Harry of old" are already emerging.

"He's running, kicking, dribbling and even tackling, doing all the things he needs to get back to the top again," said the player.

"He's tested himself fully and there haven't been any adverse reactions. He's got a spring in his step and he's smiling again. He's looking sharper every day and don't be surprised to see him back very soon."

Kewell – goalscoring hero against Croatia as Australia stormed into the quarter-finals in Germany – suffered a form of septic arthritis in his left toe so acute after that match that he came within days of being ruled out of top- flight football forever.

He said late last year: "It was pretty bad but the surgeon got to it just in time and now I'm just looking forward to putting all this behind me and getting back to my best. "

If Kewell comes through his reserve-team outing intact, he could be back in Rafa Benitez's squad for the premiership trip to Manchester City on April 14.

Assuming the Reds successfully negotiate their European Champions League quarter-final tie against PSV Eindhoven (April 3 and April 11), he could also find himself available for the semi-finals of the competition.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
