Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez had one of his top scouts in Bari on Wednesday night to see Italy beat Scotland.

Tuttosport says Benitez wanted to run a check on the form of Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi as he lines up the World Cup winner for a move to Anfield in the summer.

The Reds boss took advantage of the Euro2008 qualifier to see how Camoranesi coped with the physical Scots.

I thought Camoranesi had a pretty good game the other day, well, from what I saw - I kept flicking back to it as the England game was too painful to sit through uninterrupted.

I poo-pooed him last summer but after the crap we've seen on the wings this season I feel I'm slightly more receptive to certain players coming here now. Still, we should be aiming for better, besides...although Camoranesi is a very tidy player, I think his approach to the game is a little too laidback for the Premiership.

I don't profess to be an expert on Camoranesi, but I've seen a fair bit of him in European football and major tournaments, and he strikes me as one of those dull as **** wingers with little pace or skill - but he works damn hard!
