    The New Stadium Thread

Hicks seemed pretty upbeat when talking about the new stadium after the game yesterday.
Got me wondering what kind of improvements he and Gillett have in mind.....
A single tier Kop is the obvious one - but what else might he have been referring to? Steeper stands is another.

    Anything else?

If you read the interview on the official site with Gillett

He says he wants to stick to the original seating capacity but make it expandable so if the demand for more seats is there they can accomodate that.

I like you am looking forward to seeing them, does anyone know what limitations there will be on the design?

From the planning front will we be able to increase the hieght of the stadium compared to the previous plans for example.

They have changed their tune a bit since announcing that they were going for 70,000 or 80,000.
                          Oh I don't know.

Any susbtantial increase in capacity would require a new planning application and a 2 year delay (as it would almost certainly be "called in" by the NWDA). A redesign based on the original criteria would stand more chance of being approved without too much hassle.

So it looks like they are settling for 61,000 in the short-run, but will almost certainly be planning future expansion as soon as the concrete sets!

If it weren't for Hicks and Gillett, the stadium would have been built without the consideration of an expansion. Were the club put under financial constraints so as to cut their losses on such a design ?
