    Rivalry

    I know it.
    You know it.
    Mourinho knows it.
    The whole world knows it.

    The biggest challengers to chelseas throne are Liverpool.

    Rafa has built a SQUAD of top players along with all the ingredients needed to be moulded into a top team.

    This moulding process is almost complete.He has brought in the correct balance,covered every position in the squad with two quality players,instilled a belief into the side that WASN'T there under Houllier,brought in players with a certain fiestyness that we've been missing for a while,put together a nice blend of youth and experience and with A midfield trio of Stevie,Xabi and Momo,we have,probably,the best midfield in the world.

    I've never fancied our league chances as much as i do this season.For the first time i will actually be disappointed through expectation, not hope, if we dont win the league this season.

    I can really see that much coveted Premiership trophy in the Anfield cabinet come may.

    Keep it up Rafa,you're doing a brilliant job.

    I think United and Arsenal are both lacking in the central midfield department...

      Nic, you are totally correct. We are without doubt Chelsea's biggest threat this year.

        I refuse to write off Arsenal and the mancs, they have shown season after season they can mount a challenge apart form the gunners last season that is.
        Man U have signed Carrick and are in the process of signing Senna, both central midfielders, and Arsenal look ok in that department too if you ask me, they have argueably the best young central midfielder in the world in Fabregas along with Gilberto, not exactly what I call weak. Both teams have excellent attackers aswell.

          But yes, I think we are the biggest danger to the Chavs.

            We need to start picking up points against the top clubs now though.
            Never write off Manure but we shall be the Chavs' biggest threat.

              Fabregas actually had a poor season until about the last 10 games. There was much talk of burn-out and how he was too young to carry the midfield in the absence of Vieira. Then, lo and behold, half a dozen good matches and he's nominated for Young Player of the Year. It's a funny old game.

              Carrick for Man U is a puzzling one. My Tottenham mates were stunned by the money Man U were prepared to pay for someone who rarely changed the course of a game - 2 goals all season for instance. He's always looked very lightweight to me. This Senna bloke I'd never heard of until the World Cup and I can honestly say I can't remember anything he did.

                I disagree, Fabregas looked okay at the beginning of the season but over a period of games, especially when Arsenal were without Gilberto he had to do to much on his own and suffered. After Christmas he was fantastic. My main worry if I was an Arsenal fan would be strength in depth in terms of both holding midfield and defence.

                I think Carrick is one of those people that go unnoticed despite doing excellent work. His passing is very good and he is capable of bursting from deep. Man Utd were forced to pay so much as he is a/ proven in the PL and b/ there are so few quality holding players around - the only players who might have been alternatives Makellele and Alonso were not available. Also Spurs don't need money and can now realistically claim to be rivals for a CL spot.

                I think Senna / Carrick will be a good partnership for the Mancs. Senna is a neat footballer and a decent tackler, add to that the fact they already have Scholes and their CM stops looking like such a liability.

                  its obvious, the portuguese bloke seems to have some kind of mental block in publically acknowledging it.

                  looks like a man under pressure and not sleeping well to me.

                    will be interesting and quite difficult to see if we can jump from third to first.
                    any pre-emptive dismissals of the mancs and arsenal are wrong. they have shown on too mnay occaisons ,and thay have the pedigree and players to push the title race to the end.
                    like a lot of people our biggest test this year is to improve against the big boys.
                    winning our home games against them would be a start.
                    i think this year we might win the premiership but i think what we actually will do is put down a serious marker this year and next year win it.

                      If United do sign Senna, they will be a threat alright but i really feel that, over the last year or so, we have taken massive strides towards the top.

                      As regards to Arsenal, who are their third and fourth Centre mids?

                      They are fcuked if they pick up a serious injury in that department...
