How far is Pennant from an England call up??

I read over the weekend that Steve McLaren wants to adopt a more direct approach in England's play with pace and width, hence leaving out Beckham and using SWP and Lennon.

How far do you think Pennant is from these players and now Beckham is not a guarantee in the squad, is there a chance Pennant make the England RW position his own?

He's got to find much more consistency and quality over the coming season to have a chance imho. He had a good season last season at an unfashionable club, and SWP hasn't pulled up any trees yet. Lennon has the edge having done OK at the WC, and I would give him the RW spot right now as I think he's earned it. But that's what Pennant should be aiming for.

not that far. if lennon and SWP can get in the squad then he can't be far off because he's better than both IMHO.

this squad was perhaps to early for him but if his performances continue to be good then he'll be called up soon.

Pennant will be capped before this season is over with.

No inside knowledge just a belief that McClaren will try a few players out in that position to fill the void (if thats the correct term!) left by David Beckham.

i'm in the same boat as you shaggy. didn't want him but have been very impressed thus far.

his involvement i the move that led to luis and crouch getting in each others way was good.
