    Fabio Aurelio

we should wrap him in cotton wool. To say the lad is injury prone is understating it.

After all of the furore over the win at the weekend - and the adulation correctly heaped on Crouch and Masher - we should take a moment to consider Aurelio's contribution.

Two assists from left back in one game is quite an achievement (with another assist from Arbeloa at right back btw). But it was his overall game that I was impressed with. I thought he and Riise was our strongest combination down the left a few months back when they played together, but now I'm convinced of it. Aurelio's use of the ball - and his tackling(!) give him the edge over JAR at left back with the latter using his energy to greater effect further in front at left mid.

Aurelio has had his detractors - most notably when he was 'raped' all night at Anfield against Galatasaray. He was poor that game - but given little or no cover by Luis Garcia. Now though - he looks a totally different player - and one who could do with a sustained run in the team to really prove his worth.

Oh - and he can push SG off all the free kicks and corners!!

He sure can deliver a ball in the box....

At long last someone with a decent delivery, he should play every game just for that reason alone.

Aurelio's crossing was top notch and Saturday. His left foot is superb and he's a real asset from deadball situations. However, he still not the best defensively. Yes he can tackle but positionally, he can be poor but if he can sort this side of the game out, we could have our next long term LB.

Anything that can take Gerrard away from set pieces is a bonus, he truly is terrible at them. If we can now stop that Riise short free kick and go direct to goal it would be even better.

I have to admit I was surprised by how good Aurelio was against the Arse, I didn't think he had it in him. Maybe the sunshine brought the best of him and Mascherano out.

He's ****ing class going forward, but I do still worry when he plays left back for us. If he can put in assured defensive performances in games when we're on the back foot then I think we're looking at a seriously good buy. He puts in some beautiful crosses which are just begging to be put in, all they need is directing goalward because he really whips them in nicely.

To be honest he has hardly had any games this season and has had a string of injuries. His last couple of performances have been very good. I'm not sure we can wrap him in cotton, I really think that he adds a lot to the team in an attacking sense. Hopefully he will keep improving with more games. It would be nice to attck from both fullback areas against PSV.

At least we don't have the after-effects that surrounded his signing, boy did that cost us, and not just monetary.

                  Quite happy with Aurelio.

                    true that
I would give FA another year just to see if he can adjust more & put his injuries past him

Aurelio appears to be better defensively than Ziege ever was.

Ziege is much maligned - but if you look at the number of assists in that one season, you'll be surprised.

At first I thought that we had bought a dud when we signed Aurelio but I must admit to being impressed by his recent performances. Hopefully he can keep it up.

Take the whole package of Zeige and there is plenty to malign about.

The way we went about getting him
What he gave us in return for that.
The goodwill & respect he cost us in the aftermath about the way we got him.

It's always about the whole sum of things, and in the main he had not much to do with that tbh, he is afterall just a player, however, he did say yes to the move, and he gave not a lot in return for what what we did.

Yes by GH was manager then and when he was in charge it was a criminal offence for the full backs to cross the half way line!
