For me he is up there with Sami, Stevie and Carra as the truly special players in our squad. Sure we have great players nay worldclass players in our team but I am attached to JAR. Never a dull tap in always a jump up out of your seat voice breaking as you shout GET IN THERE YOU BEAUTY !

He may not be the best defender in the world but hes usually very effective. Brave in the tackle with explosive pace and rocket like power. If he was Brazilian and not Ginger and Scandinavian the football world would be falling over itself with platitudes. He for me never gets the respect and credit he deserves for all he has done for this club. Sure all players have dips in form and sure he had one of these recently but I think its fair to say he earned a little time and patience from the supporters to find his touch again. Which for me recently he has.

JAR is right up there with Garcia for game changing ability. At this level it’s the ability to produce something special which a lot of the time is the difference between winning a losing. There only a handful of defenders around the world who are as Dangerous and effective as Risse. Always the way the more you gain in Attack, defense suffers but for me he has it right on.

One of my favorite Liverpool players in the Modern age, With the exception of his recent dip in form you always know what you are going to get from JAR and usually he does not let you down. And he regularly provides special moments like last night. His Goal was the catalyst for the onslaught which followed.

JAR with his goals, in my eyes is a bit of a cult hero. After he is gone, it may be a long time before we have another left footed player anywhere on the pitch who can hit them as well as JAR can.

John Arne Riise scored another wonder goal for Liverpool in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final victory over PSV Eindhoven - and says all he had to do was 'smash it'.

Liverpool were completely dominant throughout large periods of the 3-0 win, and Riise scored the goal of the game with a thunderous drive from the edge of the box.

But the Norway international says his strike was simply a case of blasting the ball once he saw PSV keeper Heurelho Gomes out of position.

The occasional rocket from 30 yards isn't enough to be put in the same bracket as Carra or Stevie. I like JAR, he is a good squad player but not good enough if we want number 19. He was a spectator last night.

Riise's acceleration may not be the quickest, but his top speed is decent, and with his stamina he can maintain it for the full 90mins.

Riise is a very good defender - he wouldn't have been used by Rafa so often if he wasn't. That's a fact.

Riise has only been used at fullback because Aurelio has been injured a lot this season

Ask yourself why has Rafa brought in Aurelio and been saying that Insua should be a first team player within 18 months if Riise was such a good defender

You look at Riises games under Rafa and I would hazard a guess an awful lot of them have seen him playing in midfield just like he was last night
