Rafa to launch £15m bid for D.Bent

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is planning a bid for Charlton Athletic striker Darren Bent.

Armed with a summer transfer budget of £40 million, Benitez has been linked with a host of European-based stars.

However, the Mirror says dollar-rich Liverpool's first signing may well come from much closer home - Charlton and England forward Bent, who would cost around £15million.

Im really not sure about this one...its got to be bollocks.

That being said I wouldn't be unhappy if we signed him, i think he's a great player on the up, and scores alot of goals for a **** side. He would be a great addition to our side.

Its still an awful lot of money for a player playing for a side threatened by relegation.

Please let this be true................................ not.
I can picture in my mind a world without war, a world without hate. And I can picture us attacking that world, because they'd never expect it.

It's no less laughable than the forumites linking us to David Villa.

im not laughing though....i think he's a good player. He would also raise his game playing with a better side.

Sadly that is probably quite true. In fact it's probably much more likely than us signing the likes of Villa.

I think Bent has proved he is a decent player, but its not quite the exciting signing I'd be hoping for to get the heart racing.

are we after an exciting striker though??

i was under the impression that people want a pure goal poacher, someone who puts anything that comes his way into the back of the net ona regular basis. IMO Bent could well be this player. He is fast, can head the ball well, and has a good shot on him.

We need the excitment on the wings IMO

Oh I agree that is eactly what we need, and Bent could well be that striker. I just meant that with £40m so spend and names like Eto'o being bandied around, Bent doesn't really flick my switch.
No slight on the lad though - as I say, he has proved he is good.

If we do sign Bent, which i'm not adverse to, i hope we're a bit more prudent than splurging 15m... especially considering they could be in the Championship.

                  10m seems more like it.

if it means we can sign Alves and for arguments sake, Ribery/Tevez, then i would be very happy with Bent.

We would have a very very solid side then.

Absolutely. That would be a great summer. As Bob says though, £10m or even £12m would be a better deal - £15m seems steep.

I think its funny that if is name was Darreno Bento we would be drooling about him.

I don't like the look of Bent to be honest. He seems gangly and awkward and we should aim for better players, even if it means splashing £ 25 million on Villa or Eto'o. These players win you championships, Darren Bent is more suited to the Nationwide League than the premiership.

definately, £15m is crazy. We could "almost" have Eto'o for that.

£10m would be a good deal...and i think we would definately be in for him if the price is in that region.
