    More Eto'o to Liverpool Talk

    From The Mirror

BARCELONA striker Samuel Eto'o has given Liverpool fans the first hint he could be attracted by the new-found riches of Rafael Benitez.

The Cameroon hitman is the top target for the Reds following the the multimillion pound investment of new American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

Widely viewed as one of the best strikers in world football, 26-year-old Eto'o was missing with a knee injury when Liverpool dumped Barca out of the Champions League. But he admits he is a big fan of Anfield skipper Steve Gerrard, Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and the Premiership.

Eto'o said: "I like Liverpool's courage. They have a big red heart. They showed that against us. We did not underestimate them. You have to recognise that in the two games, Liverpool played extremely well. They defend well and are organised. I like Gerrard. He runs a lot. He does everything well.

Gerrard is the best English player. No, change that, at the moment he is the best player in England."

Eto'o told Four Four Two magazine: "I watch English football. I like the crowd because it is always close to the pitch and the stadiums are always full.

"It's not always like that in Spain. We played at Anfield and it was very loud, with lots of different songs. I like that. Football is different in England. It has a place in English hearts." Eto'o also admitted that his love for English football extended outside Merseyside when asked about his top three strikers.

He replied: "Thierry Henry, Thierry Henry and Thierry Henry.

"He is a great player. He is number one of the great players. Great players score goals and for me he is above everybody."

But Eto'o claims he is not actively seeking a move from Barcelona, and added: "I have a contract here until 2010 and I am happy with that."

Ok it's still unlikely but these comments certainly point to us having a decent chance, the Mirror seem to be going big on this story.

my only concern is the cost if barcelona are willing to let him go i imagine chelsea would bid and the price would go sky high
The future you have, tomorrow, won't be the same future you had, yesterday.

maybe, but the one problem the chavs would have is too many similar type players in the squad, they already have Droghba & Sheva who are a similar type centre forward.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

My concern if he were to join us would be the different style of play we have here compared to Barca where his given service non-stop whereas here he might have to work for the ball more and create his own chances?
Anything in this do you reckon or am i just nit-picking?

Besides that, if you were to ask me what player i would most love us to buy my answer would be this man all day long.
          Genuine world class player.

Typically for Mirror journalism they miss out a large part of the interview where he says look around me , look at my lifestyle - why would I leave this

I think you have a valid point there Marky would he be used as a target man, or as an attacking wide player?
I guess it all depends on the players around him too, if we are to buy a striker of his quality, it is important that we have decent quality, especially on the wings to carve out openings for him.

see i still think 2 world class wingers are more important than a striker, i can see crouch and kuyt banging them in all day if the service is great, let them do the job they were bloody bought to do.....strike!! not dig around in midfield.....

he will never ina million years go to the Chavs mate......he hates them with a passion.

im liking some of those quotes though. He loved the noise and songs at Anfield.

Hopefully Waldorf & Statler dig deep and go for him....he is exactly what we need.

It's never gonna happen. Sorry - but lets get real here. He will not leave barca......and if he did - being mid twenties, on a long term contract and probably one of the top 3 strikers on the planet - what makes anyone think he will cost less than 30-40 million?
