I dont know mate. The penalty we didn't get for Nesta's handball in the area when the score was 1-0, the red card that Gattuso should have got for bringing Gerrard down when he was clean through, Harry Kewell's freak injury after 18 mins, screwing up our tactics and the fact that he was replaced by Smicer who was shattered befroe the end of the 90 mins never mind extra time.

Mate luck is swings and roundabouts.

I think the only real luck we had on the night was Dudek's save from Shevchenko.

I know Shevchenko had a goal ruled out for offside, I am assuming that a was a correct decision as I dont remember it, but that may be another example.

Apart from that where's the luck?

To quote Obi Wan Kenobi, 'in my experience there's no such thing as luck'!!

If we hadn't been so "unlucky" under Houllier and lost the last game of the season at Stamford Bridge in 2003 thus allowing the Chavs into the Champions League, then Abramovich would never have invested in them and they would still be the mid table bag o' ****e they always were.

it wasnt luck when they get a lst min goal against watford or lampard gets a goal with 28 deflections? (no that was our play)
That we were unlucky to have utd on the ropes and then get suckered with a last min winner (rafa is a **** tactician)
That they were playing a Valencia team shorn of 7 first teamers (oh well have of them were subs anyway-ever heard of rotation!)

That we dont control their transfer policy and they shouldnt have sold Gallas and Huth and should have bought a defender or 2 in!

lucky? every fcuking team needs a bit of luck at some stage, they outplayed us 1st half, we outplayed them 2nd half, extra time was a nothing 30mins and we won on pens, what's all this luck nonsense about?
Ps we also should have had a penalty in normal time, nesta hand balled in the box, crespo went up the other end to make 3nil.

                    Exactly.

You could watch football for the next 100 years and never see such a lucky save in a major final again.

It was an outrageous slice of luck.

yep, you're probably right. 6 of Dudek's 9 lives went on that save alone. He used up the other 3 in the penalty shoot out.

Which reminds me, we had a bit of luck given that Dudek was coming off the line for each penalty and yet they weren't retaken. On the other hand, Dida did the exact same thing in 2003 and got away with it yet seemed too indifferent to try any gamesmanship in Istanbul. So swings and roundabouts again.

Yeah, we were dead lucky to be drawn with Barcelona, the 2nd best team in Europe (after us of course). Pure luck.

And they were drawn with almighty Porto, the biggest and most fearful club in the world.

The only club that's lucky are the scum. And they're lucky everywhere: in the league, in cups and in Champs League (Lille and now slooooooooooow AS Roma - however, I hope Roma knock them out. I'll breathe easily then).

                              any thoughts?
I'd say we have had good fortune in some of the examples he gave, it was good for us that Eto'o wasn't in full flow (but i dont think he played against Chelsea either), and that Alex isnt playing (but he played against us before and we beat them), PSV is a fortuitous draw for us for sure, but I bet United would have thought the same about Roma and they lost.

He's right they shouldnt have gotten rid of Gallas in particular but thats not luck either that was bad decision making, with Robert Huth's sale, it shows a distinct lack of planning.

He just sounds like a typical arrogant fan, as Chelsea have good fortune as well, like Essien somehow not getting sent off for almost breaking Hamann's legs, the two handballs against a couple of seasons back when Tiago was defo one of them. Plus I bet he was at pains to bring up our loss to united, because we had such an abundance of luck in that game.

Is he saying that the Chelsea tam had 7 first teamers out? Here is the team that played Cech, Diarra, Terry, Carvalho, Ashley Cole, Kalou (Wright-Phillips 74), Ballack, Lampard, Mikel (Joe Cole 74), Shevchenko, Drogba.
Subs Not Used: Cudicini, Makelele, Boulahrouz, Bridge, Ferreira.

With the exception of the Mikel, Kalou and Diarra the rest all play in the first team, and even when both wingers were on they still didnt score, so more hot air.

Luck as he put it, are goals that stand that shouldn't, like the West Ham goal a couple fo weeks ago, or the opposite like Mendes against Utd, when Roy "the tramp" Carroll cleared it from behind the line; dives which result in penalties, Paul Robinson's goal the other week, and goal for Croatia against England.

Everything else is just favourable circumstances that fall a team's way, a good team will take full advantage of the circumstances that confront them. Sure we've had luck in the draw for the CL this time round but for a Chelsea fan to say they didnt get a good draw in the last round and dont have good fortune is foolish.
                              Quit your jibber jabber!!!

Jermaine, you know the song Billie Jean...is it about the tennis player??

I just think his definitiion of luck is different from mine. I class luck as say Ayala not getting sent off for the foul on Sheva last night or a **** refereeing decision or getting a goal which should have been ruled out for offside.
