    Gary Mac signs for Reds

Ross County youngster Gary Mackay Steven signs for Liverpool

Sixteen year-old Scottish midfielder Gary Mackay Steven has today signed a pre-contract agreement with Liverpool FC, taking him to Anfield for the start of the 2007/8 season.

The youngster is widely recognised as one of the most promising talents north of the border and will sign a two-year contract with Rafa Benitez's side on July 1st.

Despite only being sixteen, Gary has been an important member of the outstanding Ross County Under 19 side this season and he scored in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Youth Cup in the 3-2 home win over Hibernian in the middle of February, rewarding County with a semi-final against Glasgow Rangers. Gary also scored in the recent 3-2 League win over Berwick Rangers.

Gary was understandably delighted with the prospect of moving to one of Europe's biggest clubs in the summer, telling www.stellargroup.co.uk:

"I am very much looking forward to it. It will be a big challenge for me, but one that I believe I can handle."

      hope it does.

surely if we sign enough "most talented/promising players" one or two will turn out to be quality.

Seen that Arsene just 'scuppered' Rafa and bought 'one of the most promising' Spain youngsters.

To be fair, if we didn't think they were promising, there would be no point in signing them.

I agree and to be honest, I'd like to think that the club gets it's money back on the investment made, if and when these players move on.

I've got to say though, out of the youngsters bought of the last couple of years, I can't really name one who I honestly think is going to make it through to being a fixture in the first team in the future. I haven't seen Insua play so I can't comment on him - from what has been said recently, he seems to be the most likely to succeed.

Players like Hobbs look to be lacking that little bit of class and players like Anderson perhaps don't have the mentality to succeed at a big club where the competition for places is fierce.

I haven't seen that many reserve games though to be fair, so let's hope I'm wrong.

Well to name one I would say the Swede has a pretty good chance.
