not seen him myself, but in the few games he's played apparently he's been excellent, we've also got Martin Hansen who's making a name for himself with the youth team and is very highly thought of, get a chance to see him in the youth cup final on sky.

as for the rest, sell Dudek and David Martin, and keep hold of Carson if he's happy to bench warm, if he's not keep him on the books and loan him out again

I can not see Carson be happy to go back to beeing a number 2. He needs to be playing especially with Euro 2008 coming up at the end of next season.

Not one of you took the bait. Is this not a possibility though with Henry's fondness of Liverpool. I know that he signed a new deal but contracts can be broken very easily.

He's a decent keeper but currently not as good as Reina and I doubt he will be as good in 3 years either.

He'd be brilliant back up but I doubt he wants to be back up. So what should we do? Keep him as back up even if it would piss him off? Send him out on loan again? Or try to get a decent fee and sell him??

He doesn't even look at our results

Carson the loaner very much at home

One Liverpool player is thinking only of survival - not a European final

                      By Ronald Atkin
                      Published: 15 April 2007

The life of a loan player can be a strange one, earning a living down the road while the club you belong to ponder your long-term use to them. Some of them fail to care overmuch about their temporary paymasters, but Scott Carson is a shining example of the other side of life as a loaner.

Farmed out by Liverpool for a season at Charlton, he has taken very much to heart where he is and how deeply he is involved in, and committed to, the London club's struggle for Premiership survival.

"From the first day I came here I saw myself as a Charlton player," he said after training on Friday. "I don't look at Liverpool's results. Obviously they are doing well in the Champions' League and I am pleased for them, but I am just concentrating on the teams around us and trying to help get Charlton out of relegation."

The latest instalment in that battle comes this afternoon at Goodison Park where, as a Liverpool employee, Carson recognises that Everton's fans will subject him to what he calls "a bit of stick, a rough ride". As someone who has spent time with the England squad this season, Carson is confident of his ability to survive the home supporters' jeers. Confident, too, of Charlton's ability to do well under what he considers the inspiring managership of Alan Pardew. "All of us are relaxed, which is down to the manager," he said. "He makes everyone feel as if we are home and dry. The lads took to him straight away.

"When he came we only had 12 points and were struggling to get out of the bottom three. To have done that so quickly has to be a credit to everyone associated with the club, including the fans. The lads needed someone like Pards, someone to say 'we are going to do it this way and if you don't like it, then lump it, on your bike'. He has that confidence about him which the lads picked up, and that's the confidence we have been playing with the last few games."

Carson is due to return to Anfield at the season's end but he says: "I haven't spoken to anyone there so I don't know what's going to happen." What he is determined is not going to happen is to return to a life in the reserves or on the bench.

Like Ben Foster, who is on loan to Watford from Manchester United, Carson has improved his technique through playing regularly. "I don't want to have a good season under my belt and then be forgotten again. I want to keep progressing. You can train 365 days a year and play only two games, but I would rather train twice and play 30 or 40 games. That's what makes you a better goalkeeper.

"If Ben and I had been on the bench at our clubs we would never have been involved with England this season. So I am just grateful Charlton gave me the opportunity and hopefully I've repaid them in some way."

Pardew has no doubt on that score, rating Carson as important to Charlton's cause as his key striker Darren Bent. "Without a shadow of a doubt he is one of the best keepers in the division. Scott's time with us has given him an experience which he just cannot replicate, though lately his game has had to change.

"When I first arrived he was getting far too much work in terms of shot-stopping. Now he is getting not so much, which is a good thing, but his concentration levels have had to improve because he is not involved all the time now.

"I said to Scott it is going to be good practice for when he goes back to Liverpool because you don't get many efforts on goal against Liverpool." Both Pardew and Carson fought shy of speculation about that return. "He is a Liverpool player," said Pardew. "Rafael Benitez's decision on Scott is above him and above me, and I have to respect that."

The irony, a rough one, is that Charlton's final game is at Liverpool, an occasion for which Carson will be ineligible. "Hopefully," said the keeper, "with a few good performances we will be safe before then and I will just be able to sit back and watch."

Pardew is more realistic. "If someone had said to me when I arrived at Charlton that we would need a result at Liverpool to stay up, I would have snatched their hand off. So we can't start hoping for anything more fanciful than that. It will probably go to the last game, hopefully with four or five other managers just as nervous as me."

To come out with that seems to me he is doing his best to engineer a move.

I have to say I am not that bothered. As long as we have adequate cover in case of injury to Pepe, I will be more than happy to get shot.

I'd be amazed to see Carson back at Anfield next season after these comments. There is no way he wants to play second fiddle - and with Reina standing in his way, he's got little chance of first team football.

Sell him on for a good profit and get a young guy in with talent, who is happy to sit on the bench for a season.

Might as well try it on and get as much as we can for him.

Worst case scenario is that we get too greedy, price him out of a move and keep him as our backup until somebody shows interest again.

Rafa has started to reverse the trend that Houllier set of spunking millions on players then selling them on for crappy returns. Even so we should get more than £5m for Carson, especially if we are selling to a top rival.
