    Fowler targetted by Sydney FC

Robbie Fowler has emerged as a target for Sydney FC after the Australian club hailed the Liverpool icon as 'out of the top drawer'.

The former England international, who turned 32 on Monday, is not expected to be offered a new contract when his one-year Anfield deal expires this summer.

Sydney chief executive George Perry has confirmed Fowler is the biggest name on the club's shopping list for Version Three of the A-League.

'He's been discussed at boardroom level and it shows just how determined we are to set the benchmarks in Australian football that we are serious about targeting a player of his calibre,' Perry told Fox Sports.

'He's out of the top drawer and although an official approach has not yet been made, it goes without saying that if he did come to Australia it would be a huge signing for us.'

Sydney had pondered an approach for West Ham veteran Teddy Sheringham but have been put off by his age.

MLS outfit New England Revolution, managed by ex-Liverpool ace Steve Nicol, have already revealed their interest in Fowler, who has started just seven games for Liverpool this season.
Will be sad to see him go

Same here, but he'll need to go if he wants to play first team footie.

Anyways, I hope he says farewell in style this time (he didn't do so in 2001, cause GH brought him off the pitch at half-time).

coming off the bench to score the winner vs the mancs in athens then holding up 6 fingers would probably be about as good as it could get

Just read his book and the Houllier chapter real;ly gives an insight as to what he was like behind the scenes. Sounds like a total nob-head of a man. Off-loading Babbel because he invited Westerveld back at the Christmas party!!!

Anyway, would be sad to see Fowler go. Hopefully it'll be after we pump the scum in teh C.L Final

I wouldnt take Fowlers book as gospel.

Anyway, he isnt a great player and he'll do well dropping down a level or two. Obviously he will score the wnner against the Mancs. He'll be like this seasons Smicer, know he is out so give us one last effort.
