So, being pedantic, how is it deemed racist if you mention somebody's country of origin but not their region or city? How is it acceptable to sing "Scouse *******s" but not (say) "Turkish *******s"?
There is a light that never goes out. RIP Alan "Mally" Johnston and the 96. YNWA.

      Its not.

But as I said earlier, its all down to the stewards or people complaining. If no one mentions it then nothing will happen. I can't say the name calling bothers me personally, but if it does you or anyone else all you or they have to do is report it to the police or the stewards.
      Forwards.......

I am glad this bloke got banned football is a better place without the banana throwing etc
I still can't my head around calling Rooney and ugly c*nt being less offensive than calling Ferdinand a black c*nt. Ones racially motivated (possibly, and I say this because people often shout the first thing that comes into their heads, i.e. you fat b*stard, ginger tw*t, old Fart etc), and ones not, but they're both equally as offensive to me and a life ban is such an overreaction. Ban the guy for a season and see if he learns to keep his mouth shut when he returns, if it happens again ban him two seasons and so on.

You seriously can't see a difference between someone being called an 'ugly ****' or a 'black ****'?!

No. If someone called me a white c*nt, I'd be just as offended if they called me a ugly c*nt.

Would I be banned for calling Fergie a alcoholic? I don't think so.
Wars have been fought, blood has been spilt, people have been enslaved, and widespread discrimination has occurred along lines of race, religion, and nationality. It hasn't done along lines of attractiveness or level of addiction to alcohol. Calling someone an alcy or ugly is insulting, but it doesn't evoke a sinister ideology in the way insults such as racism can. Btw the guy didn't get a life ban, he got a 3 year ban.

Nicely put, but I really don't think this goes through 99% of peoples minds when they argue on this topic, and there's a difference between the racism that you refer to and the flippant, off the cuff remarks that spill out of most peoples mouths in the heat of the moment.

And many a drop of blood has been spilt down my local, wars fought and people discriminated against down my local over a spilt pint.

Personally, I'd be MORE offended if someone called me an ugly ****, because calling me white would be far more general and less personal

But that's the point really, it's a generalisation based on racist terms, which as Polo put so nicely have a lot of history. Plus it's different when used to refer to a minority, e.g towards black people or Asians

It doesn't have to go through people's minds, it's engraved in our psyches through society's different levels of revulsion to different racial slurs, and all but the most ignorant are aware of that if nothing else.

There is a difference between being racist, and saying something racist of course. But the point is, saying something racist is damaging either way, and you can only punish people for their actions not their thoughts.

No doubt many a drop of blood has been spilt at many a local because of pints knocked on the way to and from the bar. To my knowledge though, there has not yet been any great social / international problem where the pint-spillees have as a group oppressed the pint-spillers. We can only pray that such a travesty never occurs

Same goes for the "we all hate Mancs" song that we sing though
