when i was younger, not proud of myself but i had a season ticket in the paddock and Chris hughton sliced one of our players in half think it was Paul walsh anyway i stood up and shouted 'you black *******' to my horror there was a coloured guy 2 seats away from me, when i dropped my programme on the floor he stoood all over it, least i deserved to be honest.

Ones racially motivated (possibly, and I say this because people often shout the first thing that comes into their heads, i.e. you fat b*stard, ginger tw*t, old Fart etc), and ones not, but they're both equally as offensive to me and a life ban is such an overreaction. Ban the guy for a season and see if he learns to keep his mouth shut when he returns, if it happens again ban him two seasons and so on.

Its not.

But as I said earlier, its all down to the stewards or people complaining. If no one mentions it then nothing will happen. I can't say the name calling bothers me personally, but if it does you or anyone else all you or they have to do is report it to the police or the stewards.

Its like you said really if people accept this then nothing will happen, if people complained then thats where the problems start. I would suggest that the man arrested probably said more than that though, but the like I said, you tread a thin line when you say something akin to the above.

There is no fine line, you are guilty or you are not. The offence is pretty straightforward to understand. There is no lesser or higher in this offence. What matters is what stewards are working and who is at the match in the crowd. If everyone in the crowd hates Ronaldo there wont be any complaints if someone starts chanting that he's a portugease ******.

If on the other hand, everyone in the crowd bar one is portugease, and that one guy started chanting its odds on that he would get nicked. However the offence is still the same in both cases.

Of course there will always be controversy over marginal decisions and we can always think of examples that lie just one side or the other of AnfieldDanfield's "fine line".

The point is that this kind of action is rarely taken at the margins and usually applies to people who (it is alleged) have been shouting something that is not at the margin of acceptability (whether through custom or principle). In short, it's a good thing he's been sent down - regardless of whether Mancs sing negative/discriminatory/bigoted songs about Scousers.

Well if you complained the police would have a duty to investigate this. In general though, the stewards don't tend to pick on a large group, from what I've seen. One guy on his own is a bit easier to enforce.

What's the point of me complaining when the Mancs are playing Middlesborough?

I don't condone racism of any type but the double standards in football really anger me. "Let's Kick Racism Out Of Football" is right but what about the abuse that Man United fans have got away with for ****ing years... :whatever:

...and by the way, I know our fans aren't perfect but on the odd occasion when we sing songs that aren't about LFC at least they're about another team not their fans, e.g. "we hate Nottingham Forest..." or "**** off Chelsea FC..."
