Spectator Banned From Anfield
A spectator caught chanting racist abuse during this season's home match against Manchester United has been given a three-year football banning order.
Jonathan McInally, from Back Lane in Little Crosby, was arrested following an undercover police operation during the game on March 3.
The sting, in which a plain-clothes officer was positioned in the Anfield Road Stand, was mounted after a complaint from a fellow spectator.
McInally was hauled before North Liverpool Community Justice Courts last week, where he pleaded guilty to racist chanting.
As well as an order banning him from all football stadia, the 25-year-old was fined £200.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We take this type of behaviour very seriously. We will not tolerate any type of racist chanting.
"Just because someone is at a football match, it does not mean that they can behave as they like. We will not stand for any racist behaviour."

I've heard stuff like that loads before...'double ignorance' is nearly as funny as the bemused look on the idiot's face as they realise how dumb they are

Same goes for the "we all hate Mancs" song that we sing thoughOriginally posted by rushscored4 View PostWhat about the Mancs who spend every match singing about scousers regardless of who they're playing?
Imagine if they sang songs like "Gary Neville is a Red, he hates pakis..." or "build a bonfire, build a bonfire, put the niggers on the top..."? Everybody would be quite rightly outraged but nobody says a word when they sing offensive songs about scousers...

It doesn't have to go through people's minds, it's engraved in our psyches through society's different levels of revulsion to different racial slurs, and all but the most ignorant are aware of that if nothing else.Originally posted by FatTony View PostNicely put, but I really don't think this goes through 99% of peoples minds when they argue on this topic, and there's a difference between the racism that you refer to and the flippant, off the cuff remarks that spill out of most peoples mouths in the heat of the moment.
And many a drop of blood has been spilt down my local, wars fought and people discriminated against down my local over a spilt pint.
There is a difference between being racist, and saying something racist of course. But the point is, saying something racist is damaging either way, and you can only punish people for their actions not their thoughts.
No doubt many a drop of blood has been spilt at many a local because of pints knocked on the way to and from the bar. To my knowledge though, there has not yet been any great social / international problem where the pint-spillees have as a group oppressed the pint-spillers. We can only pray that such a travesty never occurs

Personally, I'd be MORE offended if someone called me an ugly ****, because calling me white would be far more general and less personalOriginally posted by FatTony View PostNo. If someone called me a white c*nt, I'd be just as offended if they called me a ugly c*nt.
But that's the point really, it's a generalisation based on racist terms, which as Polo put so nicely have a lot of history. Plus it's different when used to refer to a minority, e.g towards black people or Asians

Calling someone an alcy or ugly is insulting, but it doesn't evoke a sinister ideology in the way insults such as racism can. Btw the guy didn't get a life ban, he got a 3 year ban.
...which should be obvious really

Ones racially motivated (possibly, and I say this because people often shout the first thing that comes into their heads, i.e. you fat b*stard, ginger tw*t, old Fart etc), and ones not, but they're both equally as offensive to me and a life ban is such an overreaction. Ban the guy for a season and see if he learns to keep his mouth shut when he returns, if it happens again ban him two seasons and so on.
Would I be banned for calling Fergie a alcoholic? I don't think so.
