"Supporter" banned for racism

Thought I'd mention that if anyone of you people who posted on this thread had chanted the words they mentioned they would have been guilty of Racialist chanting.

Football (Offences) Act 1991 (c. 19)

This act was amended in 1999 so that chanting could also be a person on there own.


3.—(1) It is an offence to take part at a designated football match in chanting of an indecent or racialist nature.

(2) For this purpose—
(a) "chanting" means the repeated uttering of any words or sounds in concert with one or more others; and
(b) "of a racialist nature" means consisting of or including matter which is threatening, abusive or insulting to a person by reason of his colour, race, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origins.

The stuff in bold could include anything you can think off. For instance I could call someone a **** and this would not be in this law, but if I was to call someone an English **** and chanted this a few times I would be guilty of this offence. So wheteher I called someone a black *******, white prick, brown twit, french frog, brazilian *******, welsh sheep shagger, scottish sod, or whatever, if I chanted this a few times, I would be guilty of this offence.

So watch what you say. Everyone will knock the opposition, but be aware that you could be commiting an offence when you do this.

Some poeple do take things too far. I can remember comeone starting a thread back on KT saying folk didn't like Diouf or Cisse because they were black, and nothing to do with their ****e footballing ability

Did you all see the Baros incident recently where he held his nose and wafted his hand (a bit like Razor did to a Strasbourg player a few years ago) at an opposing BLACK player. Press were all over him calling him racist etc. It was assumed, wrongly in my view, that this gesture was something to do with the guy being African etc.

It's equally racist to say 'you French *******' as it is to say 'you black *******' from the pov that they are both just as bigoted. BUT it's pretty obvious that one statement is far more ignorant and harmful. There isn't a recent history of major problems in society with people being prejudiced against the French in the way that there is with black people, and that's why one phrase rightly brings about a level of disgust the other doesn't. One is just a deliberately provocative insult, whereas the other is an altogether more harmful slur which carries a sinister ideology with it.

I don't think I've ever been to a game where just one fan has been chanting on his own, regardless of what its about. This guy must have balls the size of watermelons if he gets up and starts racially abusing a player on his own in the middle of a stand.

Its good that there appears to be some sort of zero tollerance on this kinda thing but being made to stop calling somebody like Veron a dirty argie ******* will take all the fun out of football.

when i was younger, not proud of myself but i had a season ticket in the paddock and Chris hughton sliced one of our players in half think it was Paul walsh anyway i stood up and shouted 'you black *******' to my horror there was a coloured guy 2 seats away from me, when i dropped my programme on the floor he stoood all over it, least i deserved to be honest.

I am glad this bloke got banned football is a better place without the banana throwing etc
